Pretty much it, except for the radiator fans and a good radiator cap that maintains a low pressure (about 13-15psi) in the coolant system. Any possibility you could have air trapped in the engine water passages?
I would recommend a compression test of the cylinders to check the head gasket. Or you could rent the little tester that checks for exhaust gases in the coolant.

SOURCE: 1995 dodge intrepid overheating problem

I currently am having the same issue. I have traced the issue back to the fans. The fans would not kick on so i let it run to almost overheating temperature, and checked the fans.... nothing was working. I slammed the hood to test a wild hair idea that one of the wires or the fans wasnt getting power. When i slammed the hood, The fans kicked on and the temp. dropped. So now its on to wire chasing.

SOURCE: 1999 cadillac deville overheating

my husband did everything that everyone else did that had this overheating problem. It was so weird that my engine cooled at a light and heated up going down the road. I have a north star 4.6 engine and this is natorious for happening. my check engine light also came on and so I had a diagnostics done which told me my #1 injector wasn't firing , car ran like **** as well. After putting in a new water pump and plugs, ect. and realized injector was good a friend told him we could have a blown head gasket. So just to see if this was the problem I went to buy a bottle of glassbeads and the auto parts guy told us to purchase a bottle of BARS STOP LEAK BLOCK SEALER NOT RADIATOR BUT BLOCK SEALER $31.99 . He followed the directions and we waited 24 hrs. before driving it. What ever the problem was has stopped my car runs like brand new and I am loving it again. no over heating no injector problem, runs great.......I hope this helps. I know its probly a temperary fix but its a fix and now we know what the problem was. SASSY

2007 saturn aura is overheating. I have added coolant and replaced thermostat, still overheating

Your only missing the fact that you need to continue to
diagnose the problem

The veh isn't that old first off

Before you suspect a head gasket or worse case senerio,
you shoulod us the Combustion Leak Test Tool that goes
over the radiator cap
If the blue fluid turns yellow you have combustion gases
mixing with the coolant

An Temp Gun will tell you were things are the hotest, maybe

So when & how quickly it heat up & any loss of coolant
overnight when it cools off?

Have more things to try ,but not a good outlook

My 1997 Dodge Intrepid overheats. I've replaced the thermostat, and it continues to overheat. I noticed adjacent to one of the radiator hoses, a ribbed hose that is split. Could this cause the car to...

Now that you've eliminated the thermostat, it could be a number of other things. Don't drive the car too far until you've fixed the overheating problem - overheating can destroy an engine.

That split ribbed hose you see is plastic wire loom - it carries and protects electrical wires, and is not the cause of overheating.

1. Low coolant level
2. Radiator hose split/cracked, causing low coolant level.
3. Head Gasket - leaking, causing low coolant level
4. Thermostat - stuck closed (you eliminated this possibility)
5. Radiator cap - worn/damaged
6. Radiator fins - obstructed by debris/cardboard
7. Water Pump belt - missing/broken
8. Heater Core - leaking, causing low coolant level
9. Intake Manifold Gasket - leaking, worn, damaged
10. Radiator Fan Relay - faulty
11. Radiator Fan Blade - broken, missing
12. Radiator Fan Sensor/Switch - faulty
13. Water Pump - leaking, causing low coolant level
14. Radiator Fan Motor - faulty

My primary suspects would be Rad Fan Relay (#10), and
Rad Fan Switch (#12).

My 93 saturn sl1 is overheating. Could my thermostat be bad?

It could definitely be the thermostat. It is a cheap part to replace. If the car overheats while running down the road (not stop and go traffic), then it is almost certainly the thermostat.

My 2000 Saturn SL2 is overheating. At first it would overheat when sitting idle and then once speed reached 35+mph it would cool off, but now it gets hot and stays. What is causing this?

Well, the overheating at an idle would normally be caused by your cooling fan not engaging. I would first check to see if you fan is working by turning on your a/c (this will override the fan sensor and turn it on before it gets above operating temperature). If it doesn't come on you should check your AUX. Fan Relay. If thats ok, you probably need a new fan motor but first replace your coolant temp. sensor as this is an inexpensive parts and may save you quite a bit of money (also your vehicle may be running at the normal temperature but your temp sensor may be sending a signal telling you it's hot). This will explain why it was overheating at an idle. As far as it overheating while driving, you should first check to see if your water pump is leaking and make sure your belt is intact. If the water pump pulley is not spinning your belt will be glossy from excessive heat from friction. If your water pump is good and you can spin the pulley by hand, you should then consider when the last time you replaced the thermostat as it may be stuck closed. also your radiator may have some blockages in it so I would replace the thermostat, drain the coolant by removing the lower hose and spray a hose into the radiator until the water comes out looking pretty clear. I hope this helps you figure this out.

Even after replacing the radiator, thermostat and

The problem with overheat is due to poor coolant circulating. The main culprit is the Radiator. When the radiator is clogging up, coolant can't be circulating. The stagnant coolant inside the engine water jacket keeps absorb heat from combustion chambers having no way to dissipate the heat then the engine is overheated. You can test the water pump by removing the thermostat, then hooking everything back. Open the radiator cap, then turn on the engine to see if water flowing down to several small tubes inside the radiator. If water can't go down fast enough to cause over flow at radiator opening then your 90 Legend Radiator already got clogged up. Replace with a new radiator, not even a rebuilt one. Good luck.

Overheat 2001 hyundai tiburon

Only 2 parts remaining are the thermostat and waterpump. Always start with the thermostat when diagnosing an overheating problem. If the car is overheating constantly under all conditions and coolant is backing up into the reservoir, it's very likely to be the thermostat. If it only overheats at low speed or idling, it's more likely the waterpump.

97 saturn sl2 temp light flashing and low coolant light flashing what could be the problem ? coolant is full and the heat works.

If the temp gauge is reading normal, the lights are flashing, and the coolant level is full, the level sensor in the coolant bottle is the problem. I'm a service consultant for a Saturn dealer and I've run across this many times.
