98 Subaru legacy makes a screaching sound on occasion but only driving really slow and not turning sounds like its coming from the front left tire as it turns

It may be the brake wear indicator, or semi metallic brake pads will sometimes squeal if the caliper doesn't fully retract.

Most likely this a broken CV joint and this means replacing the axle.

SOURCE: Squeaky sound front left tire and 4Wheel Drive will not turn on

the squeak could be brakes or wheel hub/bearing. most likely it is the bearing and hub assembly, i would not drive it , take it to you local service station and have then replace or repair the hub assy.

The tire noise will be due to the car needing a wheel alignment, just take it down to your local tyre dealer and they will check it for you if you are not sure.

As for the burning smell, if it's coming from the engine it could be a simple oil leak leaking onto the exhaust or could be more serious like worn rings or valve guides.

replace your front end drive links do both sides chances are the other side will start it sooner or later, best to do this before you lose a wheel while drivine it

SOURCE: Loud roaring noise in front, steering wheel has vibration, replaced tires didn't help.

Wheel bearings are likly and I've changed many to solve this problem but it's esy to pick the wrong one with e vehical jacked and on jack stands suporting the car by the lower control arms ( normal ride hieght) run the car with a driver and listen to ti run , of course theres no load on the powertrain so there will be some lash ( power on to power decline ) cheack up. The roaring noise can be isolated by puting a sounding bar ( long metal rod ( sr=crew driver)) other against the part till the sound is rounded up rear but possible the carrier bearings in the (rear end) front drive. The axel bearings and on some units the carrier bearing thats in the CV axel on the block. Sounding rod will find and change the noisey part. Professional help is a good idea if you can't carry this out saftly

AWD went out in my 1998 Subaru Forester?

This recently happened to my 98 Subaru Legacy Outback.
My problem is in the rear differential. May be the same for you.
When making a turn, the car sounds like a Star Wars T.I.E. Fighter. The outside wheel is not turning fast enough to keep up with the inside wheel or vice versa. AWD is disengaged and car is currently operating on Front WD. I was told this is fine to drive this way.

Really bad screeching sound coming from drive belts

Make sure the belts are tight. When you press firmly on the belt in the center of the pulleys it shouldn't flex more than 1/4".

98 legacy made squeeling rubbing sound when turning left. wheel bearing?

could be, but almost sounds like the brake pad warning sensor or the rotor back plate,check the brakes first, the bearing give a rubble type noise more than a squeal sound.

Rear tire jumps when turning

This sounds like a problem with the all wheel drive system. The wheels will turn at a different number of revolutions when you turn. The wheels on the 'outside' of the turn have a greater distance to travel, and will rotate more times than the wheels on the 'inside' of the turn. The 4x4 system in Subaru's is designed to adjust to the difference. It sounds like something in your cars all wheel drive is not compensating correctly, and needs to be checked by a dealer or qualified service center.
