Question about 1988 Ford Ranger

Open Question

My grandfather has a 1988 3500 GMC TRUCK and about a month and a half ago it started to act weird. when he went to go start it, it would start and then it would act like it was flooding itself out, but it has a throttle-body.(NO CARB) So we checked everything possible and changed it. and it still is trying to do the same thing but not quite as bad. the only thing we haven't changed or checked is the governor. Someone told us that it might possibly have a vacuum leak. and now its starting to act crazy whenever it shifts. If anyone has any pointers PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell us what you think! We have asked 3 master licensed mechanics and had one work on it and NONE of them could figure it out! it blows out black smoke when you start it up when it acts like its flooded and the exhaust smells extremely RICH!!!

the intakes go bad on these engines....... they leak coolant in the cylinders and cause a hydro lock that causes the rods to bend making the piston skirt hit the crank......" clicking noise" theres a law suit in progress for this issue......... you can find info on the internet

SOURCE: ford auto locking hubs

you can convert auto to manual hubs warn hubs or milemarker makes good hubs. As far as lift a suspension lift is better. This really depends on what you want to do with truck. I had a 97 f250 diesel 4x4 and put front leving springs on it and new poly spring bushings and was able to clear 35" tires on factory wheels. The best exhaust upgrade is going to be a new down pipe from turbo to exhaust as far as straight pipe or muffler it depends on personal preference

SOURCE: Black smoke from exhaust

i know for a fact that the oil is getting strait out in your exhaust system...

a common cause is a failiure of the pcv valve wich is located on the intake manifold.

to check her, just take it out of the manifold and shake it in your hand...
you should be able to hear a clicking sound out of it. if not it is done...

check for water contamination in all the wiring connections that would have been immersed in the water as any water in the connections will be shorting out.

PVC simply recycles the blow by gases. You have either blown a fuse, or your fuel pump is not delivering gas to the motor.

2002 GMC won't start

I have the same model and went through the same trouble. Last summer I put a reman'd starter on it and had no problems again until about 4 months ago, it started all over again. I was sure then that it wasn't the starter. I talked to the mechanic at work and we walked over to the parts locker and all the GM starters on the shelf (remans) had the solenoids replaced, we said in unison, Must be a common problem.
I figured the original starter lasted 130,000 miles so I went to Napa and bought a brand new one. Working like a champ ever since.

I need help resetting my 94 GMC seirra's gas gage

the gas gauge is on the fuel pump assembly with in the fuel tank, you must have bumped it during reassembly. the only solution is removal. pull it out check for alignment and binding, reassemble being very careful. hope this helps.
