take the old one out, put the new one in. start by removing the positive terminal connector and placing it so it will not accidentally retouch the positive battery terminal while you continue. maybe tape it in place. then remove negative terminal connector. then remove any hold down strap that keeps battery in place. now remove battery. reverse steps and you are all set. to remove terminal connectors, after you loosen the nut, gently twist them back and forth to slowly slide them up the terminal. to firmly place terminal connector on the new battery terminal, use a big socket upside down on the connecter and gently, but firmly tap it into place with a small hammer, etc. gently, but firmly, then tighten bolt firmly but not with great force. good luck.

How do i get the battery out of my car?

Open hood, battery on the left facing car. Remove negative (black) battery terminal first then positive (red) terminal last. Loosen or remove hold down bolt and fitting from long side of battery. Lift from vehicle. Installation is reverse of removal.

What is the problem when the negative battery terminal melts off?

Sounds like a loose connection on the negitive terminal itself or on the reverse side of the connection causing heating due to high resistance.

Golf battery polarity

reversed polarity, check fuses. check the system for burnt wires also !
Always hook up your battery terminals correctly, as the alternator may be damaged if the battery is hooked up backward. jump start car, if it will. there should be at least 13.7 to 14.2 volts at battery posts while its running. if alternator is ok.

How to jump start my 2005 Pontiac Montana?

Using jumper cables :
1. Connect one red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of running car's battery and the other end red clamp to the positive terminal (+) of the dead car's battery .
2. Connect one black clamp to the negative terminal (-) of running car's battery and the other end black clamp to the negative terminal (-) of the dead car's battery.
Basically... (+) to (+)...and... (-) to (-)
3. Crank up the car needing the jump.
4. Once car is jumped and running...remove clamps in reverse order.

Using battery pack: Connect in the same fashion as above.

You turn-off the engine and all electrical system.
Open the hood, and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery first, then the [red] positive terminal.

After replacing the battery I have no power at all

Possible causes:
1. New battery defective. ( Open circuit between battery cells ) Seen it before, therefore, possible.

2. Battery terminals not making connection ( check terminals )

3. Battery has different polarity than the original battery. ( Positive post and the negative post are reversed ) They do sell the reverse battery, therefore, possible. Basically, a battery hooked up backwards.
That would cause the Main fuse to blow resulting the no power in the vehicle.

  • Loosen the battery negative terminal clamp.

  • Use a terminal clamp puller to remove the negative cable.

  • Loosen the battery positive terminal clamp.

  • Use a terminal clamp puller to remove the positive clamp.

  • Remove the battery hold-down hardware and any heat shields.

  • Remove the battery from the tray.

  • Install the new battery into the tray.
  • Also install the hold-down hardware.

  • Install the positive battery cable.
  • Then install the negative cable.
  • When installing a battery, be careful to observe the correct polarity. Reversing the cables destroys the diodes. Proper polarity must also be observed when connecting a booster battery, positive to positive and negative to ground.

  • Coat the terminals with corrosion preventative spray, then check the job by starting the car.
