SOURCE: License Plate Lights

Probably not... For some reason license plate light wiring and sockets are VERY prone to corrosion. Make sure to check the light sockets and try to get to the wiring close to them, your problem is more than likely very close to the lights.

SOURCE: Replacing the license plate light

Hi,
Their is a plastic lens covering the licence plate bulb. I can be removed by using a flat-tipped screwdriver covered by a shop towel (or tape) on the right side of the lens. It should pop off where you can access the bulb.
Good Luck!

SOURCE: License plate lights do not work.

The licence plate lights are in the same line as your tail light wiring assembly. I assume your tail lights are working or you would have got a ticket for that. The wire is either cut, broken or unhooked from the tail light wires (which usually are brown). If you can not find the problem, you can always run a new wire to the tail light wire from your licence plate wire. Then they should work.
Your other problem is that the license plate ground is rusty & not grounding, which would also not let them work, so you should probably check that first. Rick

SOURCE: license plate light replacement

The license plate lights are in the ledge above the license plate. 2 screws keep the lens cover in place. Remove the screws, and the cover comes off. Just pull the lamp out (wedge base) and replace.

There is a wire that has shorted to the body. Tough to find. Obvious places are the license plate socket wires.. Next is the clearance lights. The harness that goes to the fenders is a good place to look. If you know a lot od good swear words... have at it...lol Good luck.

How to replace tailgate door handle?

un bolt it?
the fsm covers this, ever seen a factory service manual?

volume 2, body chapter
its part of the license plate mount
so take off the plate.
see those screws there.? off them.>?
but the inside skins may need to come off to get linkages to refit.

on all cars, removing the inside card/skins, you then look with a flash light and see whats needed. look first.?

Alright on my 2006 grand vitara my tail lights are out I checked the fuses everything is good I do know that my license plate light was out before my tail lights could that possibly be the problem?

you need a simple test light and need to check for power at the lamp socket or just replace with known good bulb first after checking the fuse..

How do you change the rear license plate light bulbs???

First look under when your license plate lights are and you will see 2 phllips headed screws remove those screws and the license plate light assembly will drop out of the bottom of the trunk, simply twist the blub to unlock it from the light housing pull the bulb straight out of the socket replace it with a new bulb and the installation is the reverse of the removal.

in your fuse panel check for faulty fuse ,or you might have to replace the whole assembly,if at the part store there is no replacement bulb then its not removeable.
