If the knock sounds like its coming from the top of the engine, under the head cover/s it could likely be a lifter (this is what opens the valves in the cylinders via the camshaft). If its coming from the bottom of the engine (crankshaft) it could mean there is a bad bearing on one of the pistons. Try to pinpoint or approximate where the sound is coming from in order to get a more accurate diagnosis.

On a more serious note: It is absolutely impossible to help you figure out what is causing your noise without being able to hear the noise. Some engine noises can be very difficult to diagnose when you have the car right in front of you.
I would recomend taking the car by the local auto repair shop and see if one of the techs will loan you a professional ear.
