Your safety latch should keep the hood from flying open, but you need to get the latch working. Check and see if the hood release handle is fully in. Sometimes they stick out and keep the latch from engaging. If it is in, then spray some lube on the latch assembly, such as WD-40, and cycle the hood release handle to try to free it up. If this doesnt work, the latch might need replaced.

While someone is pulling the thing inside the cars have someone outside the push down in the center front (where the latch is underneath) down. You may have to kind of push and release quickly. If the cable is still attached there it should release.
