white smoke usualy tells about a leakage in the cooling. check that. dont forgett to refill. get it repaired or DIY. attention: could be really hot.
if it smells like fuel, a fuel line is broken. then dont drive any more since it can catch fire.
if the smoke is not white, go to the repair shop instantly.

Gas leaks are sometimes hard to find with the complexity of components, hoses etc. on today's cars. The other difficulty is the evaporation of fuel can be almost spontaneous due to the heat in the engine bay area. I look for signs with the engine COLD and the ignition on, fuel pump pressurized, then off. It should hold pressure. turn the ignition back on at it should only run the pump amoment, not as long as the first time. If it does run just as long you may have other problems as well. With the pump pressurized and ignition off, look carefully at all fuel line connections especially when rubber fuel lines and clamps are used. Your finger and your nose may be the best method in hard to see areas. Don;t forget to check the return fuel lines back to the tank and any filters or canisters in the system. look for darkened or wet areas on rubber hoses and wet fittings on metal lines.
This is not something to play with. Find it or get help pronto. It may cost you your vehicle and maybe even your life. Gasoline fires are nothing to flirt with.
