If you are talking a front drive shaft with cv joints normally they are right that all you need is to pry it out. However sometimes you will need to assist the pry bar with a sharp hit as well to compress the wire clip that has to be compressed into the slot to allow the shaft to come out .

Install driveshaft

all vehicles are similar. remove wheel, remove axle nut, remove tie rod ,remove lower ball joint ,pull spindal and rotor back pushing axle thru at same time, use pry bar to pop axle from tranny, reversal to install, push axle into tranny, pull spindal/rotor back install axle end into hole reset lower ball joint ,tie rod end. then most important TORQUE AXLE NUT TO PROPER SPECS if you dont you will ruin the wheel bearing. not fun to do in the driveway and sometimes all these parts are a real pain to remove
even on a hoist with the proper tools so beware and for the love of life dont hammer on the end of the axle

1998 Mercury Tracer Axle Removal

A lot of people try to pry these out, but that\'s generally not a good idea. They are secured with a bullring, which is the same outside diameter as the shaft, but fits very loosely in a groove in the shaft. The best way I\'ve found to get these out is to shake it out. Alternately yanking hard on the axle and pushing back in just as hard, in a rapid action, should shake it loose in just a few seconds.

I need to remove my front axel on my 1989 toyota camry

Jack up car and apply e-brake. car will roll if one of the front tires leaves the ground. remove tire , spindal nut and lower ball joint bolts. remove axle from hub then use a prybar to pop it out of trans. the passenger side will have a braket holding axle to engine , remove bolts from braket or squeeze snap-ring to rmove axle from braket.

How do i change left front wheel bearing on '98 pont. bonneville?

Jack it up and block it in place so it doesn't move (put the blocks under the K-frame mount)
Tip... loos-ten the lug nuts while the tire is on the ground so the wheel doesn't move.
Remove the wheel and the brake caliper. Remove the axle retaining nut.
With a dead blow hammer or a piece of wood held against the axle end, hit the end of the axle to push it out of the hole.
you won't be able to remove it completely just yet. remove the lower ball joint nut and separate the joint from the spindle.
Now you should be able to swing the whole works out of the way and pull the axle out of the bearing.
From the back side you should be able to see the bolts that hold the bearing in place. Don't forget to clean and grease everything while you have it apart.
I hope this will steer you in the right direction. If you need exploded diagrams of the parts, your local parts store should have that all on their computers.

Does the spindal and hub assembly have to come off to change the cv axle. Or can you just remove the hub?

You can remove the lower ball joint and for safety remove the caliper because when you pull the whole spindle back it could put a strain on the hose. It is not a real tough job if you have the right tools.

good luck
