My land cruiser had a replacement instrument cluster 2years ago ,it has failed again and has only done 20,000 k. it is out of warranty so is an expensive exercise . i have duel batteries and run a fridge. My concern is that it all go again. Any ideas?
I would be looking at the set up for the duel batteries as you may be getting a voltage cross over which is giving more than the required 12 volts to the electrical system of your vehicle. There are small voltage reducers on the back of the instrument cluster and if they are getting excessive voltage then they will burn out and so does the cluster.

There's 9 screws in the plastic piece that surrounds the instrument cluster and the lower knee guard, remove those screws and pull the plastic trim away from the dash, disconnect the switches on the left side as you pull outward. Then there's 4 screws that hold the actual instrument cluster in place, remove those and pull the cluster out, unplug the grey plug in the back of the instrument cluster and your done. You may need to set your parking brake and put your transmission in 1st gear of you have a column shifter model.

Insert a small flat tip screwdriver in groove created by the jioning of the two halves and twist. the two halves will seperate and inside you will find a tiny circuit board and one or two "disc batteries like the ones used in some cameras. #'s 1016 and1025 are most common. Caution thogh, this is a 2009 and it concerns me that your bateries that should last 10 to 12 years are an issue. If your door locks operate with your spouse's remote then if not be aware for other problems, like a faulty actuator.
