Check and adjust for a faulty needle and seat unit in the carby that is not controlling the fuel flow. Check the ignition timing as red exhaust indicates too far. The fire in the combustion is still alight when the valve opens allowing the fire (around 300 degrees c) to exit to the exhaust pipe. You may also check valve timing for the same fault

87chevys10 87 2.8L2wdautopickuptruck no spray from injectors no idea light doesn't light, replaced fuel pump , dist., iac,2ecms,fuel filter, will start and run briefly with gas poured in throttle

check the exhaust sounds like the catalytic converter or muffler maybe plugged. If you remove the 02 sensor ahead of them it should start and run rough. When they get plugged they will put back pressure on the engine and not allow the fuel to be drawn into the cylinders and fire.

1978 gmc sierra sbc 350.. problems starting its been sitting for a while. I replaced the mechanical fuel pump but still doesn't run. I can pour gas in the quadrajet carburator and it will turn over and run...

If it runs when you pour fuel in the carburetor, then the problem is that the engine is not receiving fuel. (by the way, be careful, the carburetor may back fire and cause a fire). Disconnect the fuel line from the carburetor and place the end of the line in a bucket, then turn the truck over to see if fuel is flowing. If it is a mechanical fuel pump it should pump fuel into the bucket when the battery turns over the engine. If you had a lot of debris pop out of the carburetor, it should be taken off and cleaned. You may have had a bird or something else try and build a nest in it.

76 jeep cherokee 360. how many turns on the oxygen screw of the carburator? i can take off fine if i baby the gas but if i give it too much gas it boggs down and back fires.

Sounds like a problem with the accelerator pump or cruise circuit in the carb. The idle mixture screws only affect the idle circuit.
You start with 2 turns out then adjust it with an exhaust gas analyzer.

1997 jeep Cherokee exhaust manifold glows red &starts running rough cuts off hard to start once warm took off cat still have problem thinking bad gas

Sounds like you have a timing issue(firing after TDC, bad, pushing still burning fuel mix out the exhaust), so grab a timing light and check to make sure the engine is firing at the correct time before TDC. Your Cat convertor shouldn't be a problem.

The gas is not going into the intake but has good gas presuer

-Check the fuel filter inside the carburator and the cut off fuel plunger inside the carburator. It might be stuck in or lose from it floating arm.
That's why it doesn't let fuel flow to the caburator recevoir.

My 1998 old bravada ran out of gas it is difficult to start when it sits for more than one hour this will be the third time we replaced the fuel pump. to start it in the mornings my husband pours gas into...

You do not have a carburator
They have not been on vehicles in 25 years

I would suspect the exhaust converter is damaged & blocked,
if it has no power

You obviously never had 3 bad fuel pumps

Is that the engine with the spyder &poppets under the intake,
where the fuel pressure regulator is

I love older cars. If they get gas and get fire, something occurs. I really would like more detail on what's happening with the car (symptoms)... but I'll throw a few bones out there.
If the engine is dying while driving, I would have to check out a few things...
Fuel issues, assuming the fuel pump is ok:
1. If it tends to die as you give it gas, it's possible the fuel filter is clogged enough to starve the carburator.
2. Is the carburator flooding out?... should be able to smell gas and it wouldn't want to crank readily.
3. Is there condensation in the carburator from "bad gas"? Get a fuel addative and pour it in your tank. It'll evaporate condensation build-up in the tank and carb as you run the engine.
Electronic issues:
1. If it runs great at all revolutions but suddenly dies, I would look at any loose wiring connections at the coil. Also check the hot wire to the coil and insure it isn't arcing on the engine due to burned off insulation.
2. Make sure your points/condensor are good and points gapped properly.
3. If it backfires out the carburator or exhaust when you give it gas, the timing is off a hair...
I may have missed a point or two, but these are pretty basic trouble spots. I hope we nailed it.
Cool car, by the way!
Hope this helped... Good luck!

This seems like a fuel pump or fuel filter prob. The pump more likely. Will it fire up with gas poured into the carb? If so the pump. If not, we will need to look for another prob. Don't buy parts you don't need! Frankster016

1986 Bronco II, 6 cylinder. Finding gas mixed in oil. Will start, but has problems running. Power isn't what it should be. Main problem is gas in the oil. Where could this be coming from.

from unburt fuel in the motor and exhaust. Completely sure thats it. had same problem. Make sure your engine is running hot and and normal operating tempurature. check over all your thermostate sensors. check to make sure actual thermostate is not stuck open. to much gas going through carburator. spark plug not getting efficent fire.
