Year, make, model, and engine size? I am betting that the vent control is vacuum operated. The default position for these is the defrost mode. When you accelerate you have less vacuum. Find the vacuum leak and you will solve your problem.

2004 2500 hd 6.0 air is coming out of the defrost vents

There will be some air coming out of the defrost vents at all times, with everything working correctly.

However, I presume that most of the air is coming out of the defrost, so Look for damaged or cracked vacuum lines. Your system is designed to fail in the defrost mode, so everything is spring loaded to cause this, a fairly good safety measure.....
