Question about Cars & Trucks
How does the hood release cable attach to the inside handle (old one came off) and can i attach it to the old cable and pull it through the firewall.
If you have a lift type handle the cable will he hooked into the handle and the hole has probably broken out. If you undo the bonnet end of the cable and straighten out any kinks you should be able to pull it back into the cabin using a pair of multigrips. A new cable should be able to be pushed down the empty case. As the hole in the case is the same size as the cable there is no way you can attach anything to the old cable as anything you do will be bigger than the hole and will jam

the outer cable may have come loose near the lock, if the grille screws are accessable remove the grille and you will have access to the underside of the lock, you may need a screwdriver to push the lock lever aside to unlock the bonnet

SOURCE: Broken tab to hood release cable
Get a long screwdriver and try to release the secondary latch that way. Or if you have small hands reach up under the hood and pull the secondary latch toward the left.

I have this same problem. You have to take a screw-driver (philips) and look between the hood and the grill and you will see the hood latch assembly. There will be a large gauge wire with a loop about the size of a large philips head screw-driver. This is the release. Take the screw-driver and push the wire towards the drivers side door and it will release.
