Question about 1997 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Coolant leak I have a slow coolant leak. I've replaced the thermostat. I paid this mechanic to change the water pump because he told me that was the problem. But why is it still leaking in the same exact place. exact same spot. I kinda doubt he changed it. What else could it be in that same spot. We've checked for hose leaks doesn't seem to be a leaky hose. Help!

It is possible that the housing for the water pump has corroded and the new(hopefully) gasket is unable to seal off properly. Water pumps have a bleed hole underneath before the bearing so that in the event of the seal leaking the water will run out and not affect the bearing. May be the housing was not cleaned properly and a piece of old gasket is preventing the new gasket for fitting properly. If you have doubts that he did the job go back and front him to get the job done properly. Remember that in future the replaced part is yours and you have rights in law to take the old part home with you to prove it was changed.

time to take it to the dealer for an estimate only.  Then get the repairs done as you can afford them at a independent garage.  Sadly it may be time for a replacement auto if the rear main seal, or the crank seal is leaking.

It may be temperature sensor on radiator. Dashboard gets info from it. If this sensor is not good, ac will stop and dashboard willl show some strange temperatures.

If you have water leaking inside on your floorboards it is your heater core. Normally not very expensive.

I don't know what you mean by struts on the plug. If this is the plug on the lower radiator reservoir the cheap fix is to silicone a new plug and reinstall it. Don't over tighten. If the silicone doesn't work you may have to have a shop replace the tank they're in. If it's plastic, the whole radiator is toast. If it's metal a radiator shop can re-solder it.

Need to replace water pump in 2005 Kia Sedona!

I think you mean they pressure tested the cooling system and found the pump to be leaking.
You can check with the auto parts stores online for repair info. They also sell the repair manuals.
If the pump is driven by the timing belt it can be a major job to get everything back in place.

96 Firebird, Replaced water pump, fuel pump - Now blows head gasket.

Get yourself another mechanic. This guy is not doing his job. It shouldn't cost $1600 to change a water pump and fuel pump. No proper mechanic would remove a thermostat to replace the O-ring and put the old thermstat back in. It wouldn't be uncommon for the coolant level to drop after changing the thermostat. It probably only needs to be topped up. No, the motor doesn't have to come out to replace the head gasket and I don't see it costing $2500. Before you spend any more money there, take the car somewhere else and get another opinion. I bet that if you fill up the coolant bottle for 2 0r 3 days it will stop losing coolant. Hope this helps.

you should have the cooling system pressure tested and inspected for a leak that may only show up under could be a slow leak from the water pump, frost plug, head gasket which wouldn`t show up in the oil, heater sounds like a small leak but this is the best way to start to find it.

Steve, if you have have bubbling going on in the tank. More than likely you have got the engine to hot and smoked a head gasket or head. Its allowing compression from the motor to enter the coolant system.

Sounds like it got overheated too many times (once is enough) and now has either a blown head gasket or a cracked cylinder head, or both.
