SOURCE: overheating no fan
need to use a voltmeter and tie into the wiring at the fan connectors and see if there is power when the car reaches operating temp, is yes then the fans are bad. also see if either work when the a/c is turned on. they should come on with the a/c. if not still check for power.

Well since the fans are electric, there are no clutches and they will spin freely. It could be the temp sensor is bad. If the service engine light is on have the system scanned for trouble codes. Since the fans work with the ac running it wont be them. Most auto parts store will scan it for free. I hope this helps

The relay , a/c fan ,an open in the circuit are some of the causes.
First make sure your getting B+ to fan when a/c is on if not its the relay or an open in the circuit. Next remove connectors from fan and jump the fan to battery B+ and groyund to determine whether fan is defective.

SOURCE: Car overheats in slow traffic.
The fan will go to high speed automaticly when the a/c is turned on. But for normal cooling the fan is controled by the engine coolent temp. sensor(ect sensor) Check the connections at the ECT sensor or replace if necessary. I didn't see the year-model or engine in the post I read, so can't
give an exact location of the ECT but a few of the old favorites are the top of the intake manifold or
the thermostat housing or on some older models the radiator tank. You can follow the wire from the
fan to the ECT when the engine is cool. But start by making sure the radiator is full(when cooled)
Hope this helps.
