Installed new filter forgot to remove thin plastic wrap turned on ac and unit sucked wrap off filter and went into duct somewhere .is it safe to run ac or do i need to find and remover plastic wrap before run ac

That wrapper will cause nothing but trouble. The filter is to stop big stuff like leaves & wrappers from blocking air flow. It should be in the fan housing by now. You should be able to find how to remove heater fan with a Chilton repair manual.

There are a couple of ways to approach this. I just did one of these for a friend. The A/C pump seized while running. The serpentine belt broke. Crazy things can happen to other components when this occurs. In this case the broken ends of the belt, I think, whipped back around on itself on the crankshaft pulley and one of the other pulleys in the belt circuit and devastation occurred. 1) It snapped the power steering pump bracket in two. 2) It took out the alternator. 3) And not to be left out, GOODBYE cool blowin air conditioning. Time to decide what to do. He had to order the power steering bracket from a dealer (junk yards were cleaned out). He decided to replace the power steering pump with a remanufactured unit and new hoses (parts houses are much cheaper than dealer parts folks). You'll need a pulley remover that you can usually borrow (with a deposit) from some parts houses. He HAD to buy the alternato ya gotta have juice. I have been using the name, "parts houses" . (Can we use specific company names in this forum MR./MS. Editors ? I Feel I need to for the sake of all of us that come here for correct information.) THE ANSWER : DO you want to drop the bucks into fixing your A/C ? NO ? It can be involved and costly depending on how good of a do it yourselfer you are. New pumps are spendy. Then, if you use the older refridgerant you'll need a conversion kit and blah blah blah. YOU have opted for a bypass pulley. COOL ! Errrr...not actually. It's coming out. The bolts that hold the A/C pump to its bracket come out from BEHIND the bottom of the unit. They are long and won't clear the intake manifold,at least not easily. Take the bracket bolts out from the front. Take the hose from the pump to the dryer apart (at the dryer). Do you want to preserve the system for future repair? If so, cover that connection on the dryer to protect it from the world. With a sharp blade, cut the other hose coming off the pump right behind the grill. Or, try to take the fitting apart at the evaporator. Cutting it is easier. Plug the cut off end if ya want. Future repair thing. Rotate the pump forward so you can either take the bolts out,or remove the pump and bracket as a unit, with the lengths of hose attatched to the pump. This gets all that hose you no longer need out of the engine compartment. NOW THE BYPASS PULLEY. He found a pulley from NAPA. IT DOES NOT WORK ! YOU DO NOT NEED IT ! Nothing against NAPA. I have bought good parts from them before. Maybe their supplier does not know. The pulley is supposed to drop into the A/C bracket in the concave recess that the pump once occupied. IT WASN'T EVEN CLOSE. Chevy released THREE versions: Poor Boy-no power steering,no A/C. MIDMan-power steering,no A/C. Rich Guy-power steering,with A/C. SO....... If you have power steering, the A/C pump removal just put you into Midman status. Stop at your local chevy dealer, ask them to print you a belt routing diagram from the computer parts book. It shows all three versions. Go to your local,,,,,,,"PARTS HOUSE", tell them info...year,make,engine size, REMEMBER.. IT NO LONGER HAS AIR CONDITIONING. YOU'LL GET A SHORTER BELT !! IF, they sold you the bypass pulley.....GET YOUR MONEY BACK !!! Use the diagram you got. The belt is routed a little different since you lost the A/C pump and the idler pulley with it's bracket(that you can keep for future repair or trade in for to be made into beer cans) Also remember that without a belt on, the tensioner pulley is swung over to the end of it,s range of motion. When you get the belt routed correctly you have to put a wrench on the bolt on the pulley and turn hard to compress the spring. (COUNTERCLOCKWISE) The bolt is left hand thread so it won't come loose while ya reef on it to get the belt swung onto the ALTERNATOR LAST.<<<<<<GOOD LUCK !!! ADDED NOTE: Would that bypass pulley work on say...an "88" or "89" or "90" ? > I DO NOT KNOW. DID CHEVY change the size of the pump bracket after 87 ? We will be letting the good folks at NAPA know what we ran into and how we fixed it. We also will ask for a refund on the wrong part for the job. IT DOES NOT FIT AN 87! WE DO KNOW THIS..... IF the belt had just broke in half and safely dropped away, then all those parts wouldn't have been needed and the cost of the fix is FOR A SHORTER BELT and a little sweat to remove the A/C pump and bracket. The A/C NEVER WORKED ANYWAY

Just give it a firmish pull upward, its held on with spring clips only. The air filters are either side under plastic covers. Youwill need a torxs screwdriver of the correct size

oil leaks around the filter generally mean that the oil filter is too tight and the gasket is damaged , filter installed on a dry gasket, -damaging the gasket, lip of the filter is faulty--manufacturing problem, the old gasket for the filter was not removed before fitting a new filter--- gasket squeezing out
remove the filter, best replace with a new filter, remove any old gasket stuck to the housing, put a thin film of oil on the new gasket and screw up to touch then 1/4 turn ( fitting instructions on the box or filter)
do not over tighten

  1. Remove the filter lid (A), then pull out the dust and pollen filters (B).

  2. Pull out the evaporator temperature sensor (C) from the evaporator fins.

  3. Remove the screws, carefully separate the upper housing (D) from the lower housing (E), then remove the evaporator core (F).

  4. If necessary, remove the expansion valve (G). Use a second wrench to hold the other fitting on the valve so the evaporator line won't twist. Leave the first fitting loosely connected so you can use it to hold the valve while you loosen the second fitting.

  5. Reassemble the evaporator in the reverse order of disassembly, and note these items:

    • Replace all O-rings, with new ones at each fitting and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installing them. Be sure to use the right O-rings for HFC-134a (R-134a) to avoid leakage.
    • Immediately after using the oil, reinstall the cap on the container, and seal it to avoid moisture absorption.
    • Install the capillary tube (H) directly against the outlet line, and wrap it with electrical tape (I).
    • Reinstall the evaporator temperature sensor in its original location.
    • Make sure no air is leaking from the upper housing and the lower housing fitting.

Why does my van try to start itself when i connect the battery cable with no key in ignition?


Check the wiring boss you have shorted out the small thin wire to the starter motor somewhere along the line and i cannot see your mistake from alicante spain .What you done is a classic which even the mighty god of car ---myself in person -- has done the same thing ,i have also put petrol in a diesel car ,forgot to tighten wheel nuts and put a clutch plate in back to front --come on you learn by mistakes and that is to turn the dammed phone off or have a nice little dolly bird in a nice uniform with a short skirt to answer the phone so your not disturbed ,brings in a lot of work as well . what a bad person i am,

How to change air filter on a 2009 hyundai sonata


Hi there, here are a few steps to help you out:
  • Turn the Sonata off to eliminate the risk of engine backfires while changing the air filter. Leave the car off until the filter has been replaced or there is risk of injury.
  • Lift the hood of the Sonata. Locate the air filter housing unit on the passenger side of the car, in the front corner. Look for a black, plastic cylinder that has an accordion-type hose attached to it that leads to the engine.
  • Remove the air intake hose and air duct from the housing unit. Disconnect the connector for the air-flow sensor from the filter cover. Unclip the clip on the filter cover. Lift the cover off the housing unit.
  • Take out the old filter from the housing unit. Remove any remaining debris out of the air filter unit. Wipe the inner and outer surfaces of the housing unit with a damp cloth.
  • Place the new air filter in the housing unit. Use a K&N air filter, part number 33-2346.
  • Replace the cover on the housing unit and clip it in place. Reattach the air-flow sensor. Put the air intake hose and air duct back in place on the housing unit.

How to replace window motor on chysler 300m


I will step you through this completely. Now are you sure it is the motor and not the switches? I will elaborate on any part of process if needed, just reply.Having some one around would be a plus, but not necessary. Here you go, these are the basic steps:
1.remove door panel: scews somewhere near arm rest pull possibly a couple along sides/bottom, factory clips can be popped by using thin,stiff flat tool (narrow putty knife),check release handle trim or handle itself. Some vehicles switches pop out not ,others undo harness after you start to pull panel away. Lift door panel up and toward you
2.Remove plastic water sheid and note how it probably tucks in at bottom
3.Window regulator assembly has three or four bolts in door frame, mark well as position affects alignment (paint works well), make sure window is up most motors of this type have a slot for screw driver in end of shaft or another way to manually raise/ lower. if you can get enough access now your very lucky, otherwise just hang in there.
4.Undo wires to motor.Remove all bolts in regulator, careful not to let window fall. Now you may have to retract assembly back to down position to slide the rollers or guide out of the track attached to the glass and then slide out thru the largest opening in door frame.
5. unbolt motor from regulator assembly, bolt in new, lubricate mechanism test new motor for operation before installing and all switches
6. Reverse the procedures and your done.check alignment/ operation before closing.... silicon sealant adheres the plastic well, duct tape rips/tears, broken clips from auto parts store in "help"section, Napa, etc
7. Forgot to say check and lubricate lock/handle linkages while you're in there and lithium or silicon on plastic window regulator pieces

My a.c. unit under the hood is cycling cold but I am not getting any cold air in the car. It appears to be blowing outside air in the car. why?

It turns out the cars thermostat is sticking, as the engine gets hotter, the ac kicked out. Some sort of sensor turns off unnecessary stuff (like the compressor) to save it. I changed the thermostat, and no more problems. Let the car sit in your driveway idling, ac on. If the ac goes off, spray the radiator with water, and see if comes back on; then it's the thermostat. Another possible thing could be this air filter (cabin filter) is clogged. Usually it is located in the plastic duct work in the car behind the glove box. The filter was put in newer cars to filter out pollen, etc. getting into your car. I would check the cabin filter first. Either blow it out with compressed air to clean it, or leave it out. A new filter runs about $40 and it's a dealership item

I need to install an evaporator core in 1997 xj6. Any tips or suggestions?


Ok , I will try to guide you as simple as I can :
1- Remove the Heater / Cooler unit this is how : * Disconnect Battery ground cable
* Recover AC gas or empty it in open space
* Drain radiator coolant only
* Remove instrument panel for access
* From under the hood disconnect AC pipes at the evaporator , by removing bolts , discarding O-Rings and make sure to install blanking plugs so that no dirt goes in.
* Disconnect heater hoses from heater matrix pipes , by releasing the spring band clips and make sure to blank the pipes
* From inside the car , remove driver footwell duct , by removing the screw and then removing the duct
* Remove upper steering column lower fixing , nuts and bolts
* Remove upper steering column upper fixings (Bolts) , and allow column to rest down o the floor
* Cut cable tie which secures console harness to LH blower duct
* Remove LH fan motor duct (screws)
* Remove passenger side footwell vent (nut)
* Cut cable tie securing console harness to RH blower duct.
* Remove RH fan motor duct (screws)
* Disconnect Heater/Cooler Connector
* Disconnect drain tubes from Heater/cooler assembly
* Disconnect A/CCM connectors
* Remove evaporator pipe support bracket fixing.
* Remove Heater/Cooler assembly fixing , by removing lower nut and upper nut
* Remove tape securing RH rear footwell intermediate duct joint. Remove duct to clear access
* Remove tape securing LH rear footwell duct
* Remove Heater/Cooler assembly from car.

2- Remove AC control module 3- Remove evaporator pipe seal plate 4- Disconnect heater tempreture sensor 5- Remove footwell servo motor from heater/cooler unit * Disconnect connector
* Remove screws
* Remove motor complete with bracket
6- Disconnect evaporator sensor connector * Detach heater/cooler connector
* Detach evaporator sensor connector
* disconnect connector
7- By now you can see one upper and one lower case * Remove heater/coolent unit upper case from lower case
* Remove screw
* Remove 15 clips
* Remove upper case from lower
8- Remove evaporator from case * Remove sensor and clip

You are done , make sure to replace all seals that you see to make sure that every thing is ok and you do not have any leaks after installation.
Installation : Reverse order and after installing make sure to do a pressure test to make sure that there are no leaks

Heating and AC fan won't turn off!


I have a 2002 T&C Van that did the same thing awhile ago. We were on a trip in snowy weather when the fans all went to full on their own. Changing the controls did nothing. A little research showed that this is a common problem. The temp control sensor ( I believe thats what it was called ) inside the fan duct work had failed. It provides temp data to the computer that controls the automated climate control systems. It's easy to get to as its in the duct just above the pass. foot well. There is a small plate /cover thats is screwed into the duct. I think it also had a wire/clip connecting to it. Remove the clip and remove the screws. The plate/ cover pulls towards you revealing the sensor. It has numerous vanes that stick into the fans airflow providing data. Remove the entire assembly and get a new one for your year of vehicle. I got mine at the dealer for around $90.00. Just reverse the removal procedure and put it back in. Start the vehicle and your fans should be back under control. Worked perfect again for my car. I would rate the difficulty of this repair at about a 2 out of 10. Very easy for most. Took ten minutes.. Hope this helps..Jeff
