Question about 2001 Dodge Durango

Open Question

No Start 01' Durango, No Bus code

I have 2001 Dosge Durango R/T 5.9, last week it wouldn't start and I got a 'no bus' code on the mileage screen, I tried the self diagnostic method and it returned 3 codes: 920, 921, 999. I looked those up but that didn't tell me what the real issue is. I have an $80 OBD code scanner, I tried it but returned an error code. I continued to try the self diagnostics test on the car, it would do multiple tests where the gauges move. At one point the car cleared the error and was able to start the car, I drove it about a half a mile with no problem, but when I turn off the car it goes back to the no bus code. The only way to clear it is if I do the self diagnostic test on the car multiple times. What could be my issue here? I don't think it would be any of the sensors since the car starts and drives, em I wrong?

Just an update, I took out the PCM and opened it up... It was full of dust, I cleaned out and closed it back up and connected it back. Car starts now, tried it a few times and still starts, considering the car started before I'm going to wait a while and try to start it again.. With that being said, could this be a PCM issue?

Another update. It seems as if the PCM is overheating, in the morning and at night the car seems to start, at around 2pm (about 90 degrees) I decided to take the PCM and put it in the freezer for a few minutes, sure enough after that the car started, then I took it and placed it in the sun for 15 minutes and the car wouldnt start, to be sure I took it back in the freezer and it did start after that.

It seems to me that its a bad PCM, it obviously works but is not starting when its hot, which obviously its overheating. Any advice as to if I should purchase another one and where the best place a decent price one would be great.

SOURCE: I was actually driving a 2000 dakota QC w/a V6 that just shut down & as I pulled over somewhat off the road it showing the no BuS . it would not start again

Hello
The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

SOURCE: 2002 Durango won't start change fuel pump, cramnkshaft sensor,

"No Bus" means something happened between the body computer and the engine computer. They are not connected to each other.
Usually a fuse, one of the computers, or the wiring harness in between.

SOURCE: I was driving my 96

First lets define the codes P 1738 shift time error this is a transmission issue
P1784 Transmission mechanical problem 1st and reverse
P0736 Reverse incorrect gear ratio
P0120 Throttle postion sensor switch malfunction. Here is the fix this now make alot of sense when your TPS sensor fails you will affect the performance of the transmission and hence the transmission codes so replace the throttle position sensor this is much easier than the cranksensor and here is the good thing this sensor has no adjustment just drop and go

SOURCE: I have a 2001 dodge durango slt I started it and

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

The Bus communication wiring is either open or shorted some where you will need to diagnose Bus voltages to each module. A Chrysler dealer should be able to do a module scan and see which module is not communicating on the bus or diagnose Bus communication.

NO BUS

I have had the misfortune of my 99 durango come up with the no bus several times in the last 2 years. Each time it was the PCM (computer). The problem is that even the dealer can not help to much because Chrysler only referbs PCM if your car is to old. I am now stuck with constantly replacing **** PCM . I love my Durango , but this sucks.
You should read for computer problem codes and go from there.

Check for a faulty crank sensor. Sounds strange, but we found this out the hard way in the dealerships, many years ago. Following the trouble tree usually lead to pcm replacement, and it still wouldn't run.

2001 jeep cherokee cranks, no start, no bus

I just had the same problem of my 2001 jeep cherokee not starting with no gauges responding and a "no bus" reading. After reading the responses I changed out the CPS and my jeep now runs great! however, it was not as hard as I thought it would be. Very easy with 7/16 bit and a 10inch extender. In and out in less than 5 minutes. Finding it was the hardest part. Blends in with the bell housing. I did this from under the jeep with a good shop light. I paid about $80 for the part here in Atlanta, GA
