I am taking my car to my mechanic on Friday. He thinks it could be the catalytic converter. Your thoughts?

SOURCE: Check engine light and intermittent bucking

You might get lucky here. Go out and open the hood and start the engine when it's dark. See if you can see sparks jumping around the spark plug wires. That will tell you for sure. Otherwise, my first choice would be to put on new plug wires of the highest quality you can find. I've seen this type of problem before, and it can be made worse if the boots on the wires are not clean or too much grease was used at the factory. The solution was to clean everything and replace the wires and spark plugs because carbon tracks have been created that can't be easily (if at all) cleaned from the spark plug insulators. The coil towers will probably be okay if you clean them well.

SOURCE: check engine light and flashing cruise light always on

To properly diagnose problem and the seriousness of it, you should either purchase an OBD2 code reader or take it to a mechanic to read the code and diagnose the problem based on the code. I've also heard you can go to an Autozone store and their staff will let you use their code reader for free.
The OBDII port is located just inches below the steering wheel.

SOURCE: check engine light, cruise control light flashing,

Take the car to Autozone or similar business for a free code read with a scanner. Depending on what turns up, they will be happy to sell you any needed parts.

Check engine light on, cruise light flashing

As far as the cruise control light flashing, the light is flashing to tell you that the cruise has been disabled. The vehicle's computer will disable the cruise control from working when certain trouble codes are set in the PCM (main computer), which the computer thinks may cause harm with the cruise engaged.
The check engine light may not be connected to the deer hit. I have seen many times when something like this is a coincidence. That being said, the jarring from the deer hit may have caused a vacuum leak. Or perhaps there is more damage than you might think under the hood.

Check engine light on, cruise light blinks on dash

I am in the middle of diagnosing the same problem, : It means there is a malfunction in the exhaust gas system. Possible to have bad gas,(water in fuel, or old gas) or in winter "winter fuel" additives can send the O2 sensors out of whack. There is a front and rear sensor on the 2007. The front is 200 bucks msrp and the rear is 145 bucks msrp. You could pull the battery cables off then reattach 20 mn later but the code will return within a while due to never clearing, therfore eventually you will need to take the car to the dealer to have the code cleared. Or do it with a OBD2 Code reader yourself. The reason the cruise is disengaged is to prevent the car maintaining a constant rpm for long periods.(protection mode) All in all your Subaru dealer could cancel the code. but if it returns it could mean a 800 dollar O2 sensor repair bill.

Yellow warning light that says check is on What does it want? In manual it says take to dealer

Take it to a Pep boys if you don"t have a code reader.
They will check out the computer code warning you are getting right noe.
The cost will be about $40 or 50 bucks.
The dealer will charge you three times that much, plus Pep boys will give you a up front free estimate if you need any repairs.
Bet it's the gas cap though.
Try tightening your gas cap and driving the car around far a hundred miles or so.
remember never put gas or loosen the gas cap when the engine is on.
The computer will pick up the venting like it would a leak, thus sending a warning code to the computer.

2007 Compass Cruise Control stop working. I haven't found anything wrong with fuses.

now the truth.
it wont. tell you, you must look by scanning it.
the modern cars now defeat cruise at the drop of the hat.
(read toyota's lawsuit for 1.2 billion bucks. ) all cars companies are shaking in their boots, for cause.
so if the PCM or TCM or other things in car are not happy
it cuts CRUISE. with warning.
but if you had scanned it with any scan tool made, it tells you why.
Innova 3160 is best tool for buck.

you scan or they scan
only 2 choices.
any shop can do these,(real shops , ASE shops best.)
many do this for free,, posted here that 1000s of times by many.

reason to drop cruise
idle out of control
engine or trans in limphome mode
TPS errors or worse throttle by wire errors.
and more. just naming a few, not scanning it first is FAIL.

2003ford taurus bucks at cruising speed 30 to50

Sounds like your mass air flow sensor....or your intake air temperature sensor. Have the vehicle DTC codes checked....Youo may not have a check engine light but a fault code could be stored in the ECM computer. Most auto parts stores will check it for free.

You can't beat free!!!

My car did the same thing with no check engine light and I changed the intake air temp sensor and it fix the problem right away.

Electrical problems

sounds like the brake light switch is the culprit for both the intermittent brake lights and cruise control problems. the engine warning light could be an unrelated issue that needs to be diagnosed.

Sounds like the EGR valve is giving you some trouble. If it is happening during steady cruises, That is where I would start. Do you have a check engine light on?

2002 X-type Jaguar with 2.6 -- check engine light came on

My 2002 x-type did the exact same thing on many occasions and had many repeated trips to the dealership. This problem was ultimately cased by cracked hoses in the car's vacuum system (which is used in the cruise control and brakes). Have the dealer check the vacuum lines and the breather hose (mine had completely collapsed). Chances are they are leaking and causing your car to "buck" and the cruise to not work. Don't ignore this as it will affect the functionality of your brakes too over the longer term.
