Question about Cars & Trucks

Open Question

My 2006 Avalon Uses the remote to start the car. It would not start and I saw a warning sign that was a key with an exclamation point On the dash. I went and got my backup remote and tried it and the car still would not start. I can't imagine that both remotes would have dead batteries at the same time I had to pull that little slotted key out of the remote to open the door. Someone was telling me that there's a place inside the car that You can insert the slotted key key in to start the car . Is this true? Thanking you in Advance for your help!

SOURCE: toyota avalon 2006 key fob apparently doesn't work

It looks like you have the "Smart Key" (a small rectangular box) that does not look like a traditional key.
What you also have is a dead battery inside the Smart Key.
Look closely at the box; there is a little button on the side. Press it. This will release a small hidden key. After you remove the small key, use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry the case of the box open at the slot provided. Take the unit to a store that sells miniature batteries, and have it replaced. You will NOT have to reprogram it after the battery is changed. The life span of the miniature batteries is roughly 20 months, less if exposed to RFI, like sitting on a TV, a monitor, or other electrical device. The Smart key TRANSMITS all of the time, even when you do not press the buttons. This is why the battery only lasts 18-20 months. Let me know if this fixes your issue..

SOURCE: my 2006 volvo s40 won't

I had the same problem when my battery went flat and tried to use jumper cables connected to another vehicles battery. I called Volvo and they said I need to disconnect the battery terminal to reset the computer. After re-conecting it the remote control worked again and I was able to jump start the car. Maybe your car's computer went into a similar state.

Why does my darango shut off while driving?

If it's an exclamation point inside a triangle, it's called a master warning symbol. This is the Master Warning Light symbol. If this light is on, there will likely be text displayed as well on the instrument panel, or another warning light. Look for text in particular. It could very well point out something as serious as low oil pressure. If the engine is not running, you can't very well check your gauges, but you may have lost all oil pressure or overheated the engine. Recommend you consult a mechanic familiar with your model.

I don't Believe that remote start can only be re-programed by the dealer as it is anti theft prevention device get a 2nd opinion or call the dealership ..unless something has become truly wrong with your ignition system but a remote device works without a key ...you could try to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery itself to see if it will reset itself foe a few minutes then reattach and secure it but ,,,remote works without the key yntil you wish to drive it at which point you need to insert the key to forwards position to drive it

Warning light --Upside down horseshoe with exclamation point

It should be letting you know that you have a tire pressure problem. If you still have the owners manual read it. It will explain what to do, what to look for and how to reset the light if need be.

I have a warning signal on my dash board but I don't know what it means. It looks like an amber exclamation mark inside parentheses with a flat bottom.

I think its your handbrake warning sign...try to check your handbrake warning sign switch..may be the switch is shorted.

What is lower right most warning light on dash for '06 Tundra?

42dd5aa.gif This is for tire pressure. Tires on the truck must have dropped below 30 PSI. Air them up and check the spare tire pressure and the light should go out. :)

need to have your power steering checked. First thing to do before taking your car somewhere is to check your power steering fluid level.

Warning Light

That exclamation light on the dash board indicates low tire pressure. Check the air in all your tires and make sure they are all filled to proper levels and it should turn off.

The key security uses a series of specific resistors values one appears in the run position and the other in the start position of the key. These resistor values are not of standard values. Some times when a tech installs a remote start they measure the resistor values from the original ignition key and try to pair a set of resistors to match. If they are close the system will work most of the time. However, hot and cold temps may make them drift so the MCU will not accept them. Also these external resistors run through relays of the remote car starter, if the contacts get dirty this will also change the resistor values. Best place to look for answers is with a remote car starter book about defeating the key security for remote start.
