SOURCE: can not get gear shift into park

your shifter linkage is mis alligned. could have hit it while 4 bying? anyway, look up the info for this procedure or buy the book on it at the parts store. have a partner sit in the car while you adjust to let you know when it is in place. easy fix

SOURCE: 2006 Altima won't shift into reverse or park

Is there any warning lights or malfunction besides this?? There are three main parts that may cause this: Park/Neutral safety switch(located on the transmission), Brake pedal switch(located at the brake pedal), Shift lock solenoid(located below the shifter). P/N safety switch prevents the shifter from shifting out of (P) or shifting into (R/P) while vehicle is in motion. Brake pedal switch sends a signal to release the shifter lock to shift out of park. Shift lock, locks the shifter as describe above and is located at the shifter base. I recommend inspection/replacement of the shift lock solenoid and P/N safety switch as its an intermitted problem. Hopefully this helps

SOURCE: The Saturday before Easter I was doing last minute

Try temporarily swapping #45 Cooling Fan relay and and #46 HDM relay in the under-hood fuse block, and see if the low beams come on.

The one originally in the HDM #46 socket is bad. That relay is actually is a solid state module, not a conventional relay, and will cost you anywhere from $25-45 at the dealer.

HDM = Headlight Driver Module

Also known as a solid-state relay, since instead of relay contacts and a coil, it uses a power switching transistor capable of running the headlights (and the fan clutch in #45) at less than 100% power, to provide daytime running lights, and control the fan clutch engagement for the engine cooling fan.

Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

SOURCE: gear shift stuck

I am having the same problem with my 05 Altima. For a temporary rememdy we took stuck a key down into the release hole in front of the gear shift. There may be a little cover over the hole, but if you take it off and stick something in it, it will release the shifter.

94 Nissan Max Shift stock in park

you either need a park-neutral module or a new shifter. For now, you can release it from park with a button found under the plastic around the shifter. theres usually a key size plastic cover to remove to press. Then press it with a screwdriver and take it out of park. You will still need to have it in park or neutral to start the car. take it to a nissan shop to avoid replacing the shifter instead of the park-neutral model if thats what it needs

My 2005 Altima is stuck in park. Automatic transmission, low miles starts right up and steering wheel is not locked. Help please!!!

http://www.nissanclub.com/forums/2005-2006-nissan-altima-se-r-discussion/225903-shift-lock.html

your owner's manual will tell you how to over-ride the shift lock. ususally there is a hole covered by a plastic piece, next to the shifter. pop out the cover and push the button to shift. The shifter will lock back up in park until you fix the problem. You may want to set the parking brake and use neutral when you park the car instead of " Park". That way you will not have to push the release button-it will eventually break.

make sure your brake lights work; as the shift lock is powered by the brake light fuse-replace as needed.
