I don't think the ignition keys are chipped for that year Maxima, but even if they were you should be fine if the new lock cylinder came with keys.

turn the ignition to the on position then on the bottom of the steering colum just under the lock cylender thare is a hole that leads up to the cylender. get a straight pick or somthing with a point on it and insert in hole apply a little steady force while pulling straight out on the cylender. i am assuming you are talking about the ignition lock cylender.
