When rebuilding the clutch and replacing the throwout bearing, is it necessary to drop the motor?
That's a very difficult question to answer without knowing the make, model, engine, etc. Most likely, it's not necessary at all, but without any information whatsoever I can't give you a definitive answer.

two things to mind, sometimes when you get a new clutch it comes with blocks in pressure plate there put in there from the factory for shipping purposes, they have to be removed otherwise it will do what you discribe. secound if you got the wrong length throwout bearing will do it to. most likely its one or the other. if you sure everything is right as far as clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing, than the only other thing i can say it could be is slave cyl. bad. hope this helps. ON A 2000 MAX 6 CYLINDER HAS CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER AND SLAVE CYLINDER, CHECK FLUID LEVEL AND BLEED CLUTCH SYSTEM AT SLAVE CYLINDER BLEEDER. HAVE NOT HEAR OF CABLE CLUTCH SYSTEM. ONLY HYDO.& LINKAGE. GOOD LUCK

If the car hasn't been driven for a while it could be corrosion on the fork but I think that is unlikely. I think you are right about the release bearing being jammed in the spring. If the truck has quite high mileage, it probably means a clutch job.

it is the throw out bearing and if you go through that,you may as well replace the clutch,which must be removed to replace the bearing anyway.the clutch comes with a new bearing.

It is very difficult for you to disengage the clutch by hand or with any leverage you can get outside the transmission. There is over 200 lbs of force clamping on the clutch disc.
If you replaced the clutch and took the slave cylinder out of the transmission without putting a brick under the clutch pedal or disconnecting the pivot arm from the pedal then you ruined the hydraulics. Buy a new PRE-BLED system from a local auto store. Generally this is the problem.
Either that or the clutch fork is bent or you installed the throwout bearing backwards (or simply fell off the fork which is not all that uncommon).
