Open Question

I have a 2000 C15 cat engine. It has started overheating. I have changed out the thermostats. The engine light and high temp light still comes on. No leaks from water pump.

You have a new radiator and thermostat, so your coolant was flushed. Was the radiator "burped" afterward to get rid of air bubbles? If not, that needs to be done first - it would explain virtually every symptom you're seeing.

Jack up the car so that the radiator cap is elevated. With the coolant topped off, start the car and let it run until it's about 3/4 of the way to overheating. Then shut it down and go have a beer. When it cools off enough to safely open the radiator cap, do so, and any air trapped in the system will bleed out.

What you're doing is circulating the coolant and the air bubbles inside. The bubbles get lodged behind the thermostat and stay there, keeping it from opening (this causes the car to heat up). When you later pop the cap off the radiator, the pressure is vented from the system, the thermostat opens, and the bubbles pass through. They'll work their way to the radiator (since you've got it elevated) and pop out the open cap opening.

Your coolant level will likely drop somewhat after doing this, as the air bubbles will be gone and the space they took up in the system is now available. You may need to add a little more coolant, so top if off (with the car back on the ground) and recap the radiator, fill the overflow to the marked point on the tank, and you're good to go.

Try this if you haven't already, and post back up with your results. If it doesn't solve the problems, we'll take it further.

Do the cooling fans come on ? Your vehicle should have two fans controlled by The PCM - engine computer energizing three different relay's for low and high speed .

05 Forenza green clock light keeps flashing. Also catalytic converter overheating causing heating and burning wires

the stock car had nice wiring , harness wiring and clamps and works great, until..
but someone hacked yours all up,
why not photo the clock light, no idea at all what that means.
photo it and post .
does clock mean the TIME CLOCK or does that mean the SPEEDO CLOCK warning lamps glow, see 2 photos of me guessing what clock means , on your car.

what makes you think the cat is too hot, do tell.
why.? (sure they do , and is symptoms of rich)
but is normal to get hot, they all do.
the cat can go to 3000F normally, you do know that right.?
my guess is you failed to scan the PCM.
or ask any shop in town to do that.
(if the check engine light is on get car serviced)
same for too hot cat.
same for misfire, makes cat hot too.
same for sure if the CEL lamp flashes
the operators guide tells you that that means overheating the cat, as designed to do.
on all cars.

the burned wires, are hacks.
Hacks as in letting unskilled works touch car.
they hack it up bad. (or butchers)
the weak wires do not get near the cat. on a stock car.
then come to the 02 at 90degree angle,
the o2 wires actual pig tails wires are high temp special wire, very high temp..

but not the harness side, they will melt if hacked , hacker cut the clamps up and allowed the soft low temp harness side hit the cat or exhaust
He did a hack job
he fail to put it back as he found it, sad no?.


the engineer of your car designed the cat and wire
to be ok, even if say , then engine thermostat failed cold and the fuel mix goes gross RICH.
that is all part of the engineering done !!!
see those cat shields, they also must be in place.

then the CAT gets way hotter , why hotter, this is its job.
it's job is to burn up (catalyze ) all that wasted rich fuel.
to keep the earth green. (includes lungs)
it burns HC, Hydrocarbons and gets even RED hot.
the problem is 2 fold
bad wiring
and not scanning the PCM.

Temp gauge says cat is overheating, but it's not hot and doesn't smell like antifreeze


By cat I assume you realize this is a warning for an overheating catalytic converter not the engine, the Cat is locate in the exhaust system and can cause a fire.

This can be cause by a few things, the first thing to check would be with a cold engine open coolant cap, this may be on the radiator or the plastic bottle, make sure cooling system is full.

the next thing is to see if the fans come on when temp start to go past 3/4 on temp or if digital at 220.

the rest would need a shop to check. a bad coolant temp sensor or fan relay/module and last thermostat.

My 1999 Chevy Malibu runs hot? It started when it overheated. We changed the thermostat, then water pump, then temp sensor gauge and the temp gauge goes high but only when the heater stops blowing hot...


Air pockets will make the guage do that, and also cause your heat to come and go. Also, a poor radiator, as in rotting, or plugged up, will cause high temperature issues.

My 2000 Buick Century keeps overheating. We've changed the thermostat and radiator. Any other suggestions


If thermostat is new and you correctly filled radiator by filling while running and let level drop so all fluid goes into block and then fill up radiator again, then you either have faulty temp sensor or plugged exhaust.

Vehicle overheating when in the idle position. When I stop the vehicle at a light or the vehicle is idling the thermometer gage is going up very high. When I drive it seems to cool off abit.


Your cars thermostat needs replaced it is stuck closed. to test this wen stopped engine running lower windows turn heat on blower to high if your temp gauge lowers in temp have it fixed ASAP. Not much money unless you wait till your engine overheats then BIG BUCKS

use 50/50 mixture of coolant/water, use synthetic oil or no more than 5w 30. Change thermostat, make sure fans come on when idleing, otherwise change relay

sounds like a faulty sender unit not passing the right voltage which is causing the gauge to read high

Engine overheating audi 4.2 a8 1999


I would have the cooling fan checked, and have the thermostat changed. An overheated thermostat (overheating caused by something else) will cause problems in the future.
