Sorry, I'm just now getting it to you.  The dipstick is located on the passenger side of the car way down at the bottom.  It should have a yellow handle.  It's just to the right and down of the battery.  Let me know if you can't find it still and I will get you a picture somehow.

SOURCE: how to locate the thermostat for a 1997 acura 2.2

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the cooling system into a suitable container.
  3. Locate the thermostat housing by following the upper radiator hose to the engine.
  4. Loosen the hose clamps then carefully detach the hose from the fitting.
If the hose is stuck, carefully use a pick to break the seal between the radiator hose and the housing. If the hose is deteriorated, replace it with a new one.
  1. Disconnect any sensors or switches that may interfere with the removal of the thermostat from the housing.

Pull the water outlet neck away from the housing

Note the installed position of the thermostat, then remove it

  1. Unfasten the retainers, then remove the thermostat housing.
Some coolant may leak out of the housing as the seal is broken.
  1. Remove the thermostat carefully noting how it's installed.
  2. Clean the mating surfaces of the thermostat housing.
Many thermostat housing's are made out of aluminum alloy. A plastic scraper is very effective and will not harm such metals.
To install

Install the thermostat with the air bleed valve at the top

  1. Install the new thermostat and gasket.
Install the thermostat with the jiggle pin facing up. This acts as an air bleed and must be at the top of the thermostat to operate properly.
  1. Install the thermostat housing, then tighten the bolts securely.
  2. Connect the radiator hose and tighten the hose clamps securely.
  3. Install any remaining components, then refill the cooling system.
  4. Start and run the engine until it reaches normal operating temperature while checking for leaks.

Unfortunately, I do not know precisely. But for the most part auto a/c's are all the same. Below I will describe how to find it. I have also included a aguide to determine system operability that may or may not be helpful. Just trace the system with flow path described below the valve has to be between condensor and evaporator.

Reminder the flow for the a/c system is :
1. From the compressor a high pressure (HP) gas goes to the condenser in front of the radiator.
2. From the condenser a HP liquid goes to an expansion device (orifice tube or expansion valve)
3. From expansion device the low pressure gas enters the firewall to the evaporator.
4. From evaporator the low pressure liquid/gas mixture goes through the dryer2_bing.gif back to the compressor suction.

Below is a guide to troubleshoot and check system function. This can be done by most folks.

Look at the front of the ac compressor and have someone turn on the ac from inside the car. The front of the pulley(clutch) will spin when turned on.

If it does not spin, the low pressure switch (LPS) is not satisfied. Meaning there is not enough freon in the system to operate the system. Means low freon capicity because of a leak.

The LPS can be jumpered to cause the compressor to run (clutch to engaged) which will draw the freon in the system.

The LPS is usually a two wire sensor on the suction of the compressor. (between evaporator and compressor) Unplug the sensor and install a jumper, this will engage the clutch. Connect a new can of freon
and fill to system capacity.

The capacity of the ac system will be on a label under the hood, do not overfill. Probably about 2 lbs. Local parts stores (Auto Zone and Advance) will have freon with stop leak. This may help the leak. They also make a freon with a UV dye. I always add a single can with dye so that if stop leak does not work I can find the leak in the future.

The system should be filled until suction pressure is about 30 to 38 psi..

SOURCE: Can't find rear a/c expansion valve, where is it

I am in the process of doing the same procedure on my 2001 durango 5.9... condensor, compressor, accumulator, followed by both front and rear expansion valves. I pulled the rear passenger side trim off after following the pipes to the back. It looks like the expansion vale is the first component hooked to the pipes just as they come through the body into the cabin. It appears to be wrapped in a black sticky mat... I did not unwrap yet so it may not be... What are your failure symptoms? I have a slow leak and a blockage inside the system to where it cannot be fully charged without releasing pressure from the rear of the compressor. I sure hope its not in the evaporator core...

The expansion valve will be on the line for the high side of the system and if you look real close the line will have a dimple in the line and that is where the valve is. If I was you I would start checking at the condenser and if not there check just before it goes into the evap. However, it will be in the high pressure line for sure.

  1. Remove the filter lid (A), then pull out the dust and pollen filters (B).

  2. Pull out the evaporator temperature sensor (C) from the evaporator fins.

  3. Remove the screws, carefully separate the upper housing (D) from the lower housing (E), then remove the evaporator core (F).

  4. If necessary, remove the expansion valve (G). Use a second wrench to hold the other fitting on the valve so the evaporator line won't twist. Leave the first fitting loosely connected so you can use it to hold the valve while you loosen the second fitting.

  5. Reassemble the evaporator in the reverse order of disassembly, and note these items:

    • Replace all O-rings, with new ones at each fitting and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil before installing them. Be sure to use the right O-rings for HFC-134a (R-134a) to avoid leakage.
    • Immediately after using the oil, reinstall the cap on the container, and seal it to avoid moisture absorption.
    • Install the capillary tube (H) directly against the outlet line, and wrap it with electrical tape (I).
    • Reinstall the evaporator temperature sensor in its original location.
    • Make sure no air is leaking from the upper housing and the lower housing fitting.

Locate the expansion vavle


The expansion valve is located inside of the evaporator case, near the blower motor.

98 Acura CL 3.0 - I can't locate where the coolant reservoir is located under the hood.


An easy way to locate the res is to look at the top of the radiator where the cap is then you will see a small hose leaving the radiator right where the cap is then follow the hose and it will lead you to the resivior, this resivior should be located behind the radiator on a bracket.

right side under front park plug wires at curv
you might have a plastic cover to remove first
the EGR is located on the end of the head on transmishion side
has plug on top and 2 nuts holding it on

The expansion valve is located within the passenger compartment, driver's side. You need to remove a white plastic piece, called a pipe cover. Once that is out the way, the expansion valve is hidden behind the large, rubber covers. Cut the zip ties to get to it.

99 chevy suburban a/c cools up front blows warm out back.


thermastatic expansion vavle in the rear evaporator. If you are familiar and comfortable working on chevy's - Replace the vavle located on the high side line on the rear evaporator. You have to pull the right rear quarter panel. Remove rear evaporator case on bolt valve and replace vavle. Reinstall and charge the system.

I replaced EGR valve on my 97 Acura 3.0 CL after


I am fixing to change my EGR valve and the piece of paper that came with the part say this:

Important Notice
Before installing this part, check the EGR valve passage in the intake manifold and clear any carbon blockage. Failure to do so will result in repeat malfuntion of the EGR valve system. Refer to a technical service manual or contact a service dealer for proper cleaning procedures.
