SOURCE: how do I remove and replace the alternator on a

just pulled my alternator out of my 2.0 2005 ford focus. you have to remove it from the top. Removing the power steering fluid reservoir, Radiator reservoir, and the heat shield from the exhaust. Good luck. It wasn't fun. Also I am having a hard time finding a replacement under $250.

SOURCE: need to replace alternator on 1998 chevrolet monte carlo

Nope, it has two bolts one towards the front and one at the back underneath. Be careful of the one in the back as the nut is tricky to get on. You don't need to remove the bracket.

I had my alternator changed and the mechanic charged me for the coolant too. Is it necessary to remove the radiator hose to get to the alternator? I have a Nissan Elgrand E50 2001 model

Not normally. Open your hood, look for the alternator and see if there is a radiator hose in the way? If you aren't sure what the alternator looks like Google it. You can also Google

Year make model replace alternator

And look at the video tab. Someone will have a video of it. Then go back and say I looked at a video of how to replace the alternator and you don't have to touch the coolant syatem, so why did you empty mine?

There is a small possibility that he removed the radiator to get extra space for wrenches.

How to replace a alternator

It depends on what type of vehicle you have. However, the principle is the same on all vehicles. Just that it's more time consuming and difficult on some vehicles because of limited space in which to work.

Your first step would be to disconnect the electrical leads from the rear of the alternator, after having disconnected the battery.
25932864-jil1jjwvkur0lkeilf3pe4be-4-0.jpeg There will either be one long bolt with nut to hold the alternator onto an engine bracket, or perhaps 2 bolts/nuts. Slacken these bolts/nuts but do not remove them.

There is also another nut/bolt which controls a tensioner:
Top hole - bolts for the tensioner. Loosen/remove it to take off the tension on the belt (usually by pushing the alternator towards the engine). Remove the belt from the alternator pulley.

Then remove the bolt/2 bolts holding the alternator to the engine bracket and remove the alternator.

How to remove alternator it will not get out

OK. A common problem with alternators is that all of the bolts and nuts that hold it on must be loosened and then removed before pulling it out.

Also, I assume the belt is off of it before attempting to remove the alternator.

There are usually 2 sets or 3 sets of bolts and nuts if not more to take it off.

Compare your replacement part's holes to see how many bolts go through the holes.

Hope that helps.

We have 3 wires for alternator. can you tell me whitch post on the alternator they go on

the large wire is the "hot" output that goes to the larger lug on the backside of the sure to remove the ground battery cable before attempting any repairs/replacement of the electrical system as to not cause a short...the other smaller diameter wires should be self explanetary, they are usually inserted into a plug which fastens to the side or rear of the alternator....that unit is called a "Delcotron Alternator" which has an internal voltage regulator built into it, refere to this type of alternator when replacing the unit.
