SOURCE: key stuck in ignition, will not turn back to off

I had a problem like this - where the key would NOT go to lock when you shifted to PARK an tried to turn off the engine - I fiddled with it for a bit and finally discovered that when I put the transmission in into park I needed to pull back just a bit so that the lock cylinder would know that the vehicle is in park. I tried it several times both with and without pulling back a tad on the shifter after placing in PARK. Each time I did not pull back on the shifter it would NOT let me remove the key, EVERY time I pulled back on the shifter a tad - it would allow me to remove the key. Someone tell me why ? Adjustment ? I hope so...

SOURCE: mitsubishi galant 2004 key stuck in ignition

1st Remove Battery cable from Battery because the only time the air bags will deploy is when the key is in the ignition. I have tilt steering and when I put the steering wheel in the up most position. I came right out. But now it seems to stick more lately.

I have 98 grand prix ignition is stuck in start had to pull fuel pump fuse but cant shut car off lights are still on

Suggest disconecting the battery. Then you can work on the problem. it is not clear if the issue is the key stuck in the start position in the iginition switch or if the starter motor is stuck (running) after the car starts. If it the starter motor is running... Time for a new starter. If it is the ignition switch, try
pushing the key in and turning back off. Still stuck? Try pulling pn the key and turning off. Either way, if it is the key, yime for a new ignition switch.

When i turn key on my 2007 chrysler sebring the starter gets stuck and keeps trying to start even when releasing key have to turn off and remove key to stop starter

there are a few things that will cause this problem 1 is a stuck solenoid, 2 starter drive pinion stuck in the ring gear or flywheel. 3 ignition switch is shorted internally. I would try tapping the starter motor with a hammer or steel bar then turning the key to the on position... If the problem is gone replace the solenoid.

Truck turns over and starts when I connect battery???? No key is even in the ignition.

Maybe the ignition is bad- or your starter solenoid stuck in engaged position?

It is due to one of 2 things. The ignition key can still be sending the start signal to the starter relay through the small wire in the Relay solenoid; or the starter Relay is stuck after it gets the signal from the key and the key is correctly in the RUN position.

You would need to put a voltmeter on the small wire on the starter solenoid. The Relay should not connect the battery to the starter without this small wire attached to it.. If this wire is off and the
starter gets power, the relay is bad. If you test the small wire for power, it should only have power in the START position. The small wire should be powerless in any other position.

If the small wire has power at other times, the ignition switch is bad.

Please rate my info.

My son bought a 1995 camaro, and when he got it home he realized the battery cables were unhooked, he went to hook them up and the motor turns over...with the key off....what could be the problem?

It sound like the solenoid on the starter may be stuck. You could try tapping on it with a hammer to see if it helps. You may have to change the starter. Also there may be a starter relay that is stuck or a a bad ignition switch. You could take a simple test light and check and see if you have power at the ignition wire on the starter. You shouldn't have any until you turn the key to the start position and only in the start position.

My car starts as soon as i hook the battery up without thekey in the ignition.I need to know why or what causes that.

Without the key in the ignition............ Now thats a new one. Several things have to be energized to start the engine. If the car starts and runs then the ignition switch under the steering column is stuck in start position. If you mean the starter cranks but the engine does not start then 2 things could be causing that. The starter relay in the fuse box under the hood is stuck on or the starter itself has the solenoid stuck in the start position and has to be replaced.

The ignition won't turn over

This could most certainly be cause be split/cracked tumblers within the switch or by another part of the key cylinder. It could be as easy as a fix as getting a new key cut by code. On your model car you should find a sticker within the glovebox or stamped on the glove box lock. Bring the code or complete lock to your nearest locksmith shop and I'm sure they can help.
