RAC horsepower, is "taxable horsepower"
Basically all you have to find out is the horsepower of the 1991 toyota corolla with the same motor.
Which I believe(not knowing what exact motor) is 102 HP
Good luck

VW transporter power problem

Hi nick. I have a T5 04 model and recently had the same problem. i was told it was a blown turbo so i had a friend look at it and turbo was fine. got vw to run a diagnostics and it had a broken wire running from the charge pressure meter. replaced for 9 euro. 3 weeks later same problem and it turned out to be a loose plug on the air mass meter. now its perfect again. apparently what happens is that if the engin management is getting a wrong reading from the pressure meter it limits the van to 40 horse power for fear of blowing the engine. whenever i switched the van off and back on the problem would fix itself but as time went on it got worse until complete failure. the wire is located under the coolant resivoir. dont know exactly where though. email me on paulblackpb@gmail.com if you need to know more. if it does turn out to be the turbo (which i doubt) then there is a website called CRTurbos that seem to be the cheapest around. but i seen another forum where the turbos were replaced and the problem remained. I suggest first look at the charge pressure meter.

fuel pump located inside petrol tank,
you have to remove the fuel tank, only 4 bolts, and a few pipes.
befor doing so, check fuel pump relay located in the middle of dashboard on the floor(horse shoe type plastic cover)

Improve towing

are you looking at improving fuel econ or power ?

fuel econ can be increased by 3-5 mpg by installing a torque converter lock up control gale banks makes a great one but there are others

short bursts of added power can be added by a propane injection system there's a bunch of mfg's of these just google it and you'll see

these are the lowest cost things i know of

of course for more money there are belt driven blower kits you can add
these add 20 to 100 hp and can cost 1200 to 4500 bucks depending on what kit you want

Ohh and another way low cost way to increase both MPG and Power is to increase your exaust pipe size to 4 inches Plus++++ but be carefull
ck your local laws about mod pipes on trucks there not legal everywhere

Check all the small pipes that supply boost pressure to the waste gate valve. I had a similar problem with a 2.5 TDI Transporter in Australia. I had a pipe worn right through.

My car is running good and then all my horses got down and after a moment response again this problem does often

i think i had the similar problem with my car. I'm tell what my car did and if it sound the same then do what i did.
When you push the car hard usually beyond 3500-4500 RPM it would just sorta lock up. Almost like when you reach the Electronic speed limiter, which is 137mph on the maxima00-03. car looses almost all of the power and gains it back soon you let go of the gas paddle but same if you push it again.

i had to change Mass air flow sensor. There was a recall by nissan about this sensor. They would only fix it if your has less then 80k miles. If above this mileage limit you are out of luck. Sensor costs about 100 bucks. It is located right on the Intake pipe of the car. Which is that round black pipe. If you look at carefully you would see a sensor located right on that intake pipe after the air filter. May be around 1 foot apart from the air filter. you can replace the sensor by your self because there are only 2 screws you would have to open. very simple. My machinic had recommanded me to go get your car's computer reprogrammed after changing the sensor... but you don't have to because car's computer relizes the sensor change. i had to pay 60 bucks for dealers to tell me that you don't need to get your computer reprogrammed because it resets it self.
Down turn........ this faulty sensor told my car after 80mph that car is not getting enough air in the air system and engine just would not generate as much horse power or reach its peak. so.....because of that my car gave very good mileage on the highway. I tested it out ... It gave me 454 Miles per tank before i replaced that senor. Now by replacing the sensor my mileage went down to around 375 per tank... this number is around what nissan claims.
HOPEFULLY THIS HELPS YOU.... IT DID HELP ME.... IF YOU DON'T DRIVE FAST OR DO STUPID **** LIKE MYSELF.... DON'T REPLACE THE SENSOR AND KEEP GETTING THE GOOD MPG YOU ARE GETTING....
