Question about Cars & Trucks
No start on a 1999 ford f150. cranks but thief light flash s an won't start? ?
This is the anti-theft system working properly. The vehicle has lost communication with the key and it this causes it to go into theft mode. This can happen randomly, or if the battery in the vehicle was replaced. Unfortunately this means a trip to the dealership to have them reprogram a key.

THE KEY HAS A CHIP INSIDE IT TO PREVENT THEFT. IF THIS KEY HAS THE WRONG RESISTANCE VALUE THEN IT WILL NEVER START. IF THE KEY IS A DUPLICATE, THEN YOU MAY NEED TO GO TO THE DEALER WITH PROOF OF OWNERSHIP AND THEY WILL BE ABLE TO MAKE A NEW KEY. I COULD BYPASS THE MODULE BUT SOME SECRETS ARE ONLY FOR THE PROS. IT WOULD BE A BREACH OF SAFETY AND SECURITY TO INFORM YOU OF THE BYPASS SEQUENCE. I WOULD ASK MY CUSTOMER FOR PROOF OF OWNERSHIP BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS PROCEDURE. SORRY, BUT I AM SURE THAT THIS ANSWER DOESN'T HELP MUCH. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU. THANK YOU FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA.

If you are dealing with the anti theft the anti theft will flash as you are trying to start the vehicle if this is the case then it is the anti theft if not then you are not dealing with a ant theft issue. You can do a 30 minute relearn procedure without a scan tool. here is how Turn ignition on without the engine reunning.attempt to start the vehicle then release the key to ON.(vehicle doest start) Observe the security light.afeter 10 minutes the security light will turn off.Turn off the ignition and wait 5 seconds.do this 3 times for 30 minutes. start the engine with the engine started the vehicle will learn the passlock key.

As with any no-start issue, you will need to figure out if you have a problem with fuel pressure to the injectors, or spark to the plugs.
I would also check the computer for trouble codes.
Let me know what you find out.

Take the mass air flow sensor off and clean the small wires inside of it using a non-chlronated brake cleaner then let it dry for 10-15 minutes and re-install.If the problem still exists would check the throttle position sensor.

The engine and transmission in this cars drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPEDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM
