SOURCE: 1990 lincoln town car trunk motor will work when releasing trunk

All you have to do is bring it in and it takes 2 make it like a regular manual car trunk...they tap the part where it closes and it works just like a regular trunk. Much better because I always thought I'd get my hand caught in the automatic. One of the guys at the Service Center did it for me in 2 minutes for free:)) Don't get a new motor just make it manual. Plus the trunk open switch still works as usual.

Trunk pull down in 1993 lincoln town car

There is a switch near the latch thats attached to the body of the car. It connects directly to the motor for the latch. This is the number one cause of this problem.
You could check the motor operation by removing the switch (1 Torx screw & pull it up). Then connecting 12 volt leads to the 2 contacts on the motor itself. One way it should move up the other it should go down. The 3 wire connector has both positive and negative 12 volts. The polarity switches from the position of the switch on the trunk lid by the latch.
The switch is about $30 on eBay and the switch and motor are about $150. Search for trunk pulldown switch for availability and pictures.

Trunk wont close tight

This car should be equipped with a trunk closing motor. If they wear out they will not pull the trunk firmly closed. If you have a standard latch or other you can try to adjust it by 1) open trunk 2) loosen the two bolts that hold the latch to the trunk lid and moving the latch just slightly higher and retightening the bolts. A couple of tries should do it. Thanks for asking at

1996 Lincoln Town Car trunk motor won't shut off

under the trunk lip (directly where the latch goes into the lock jaws; remove the carpet so that you can see the side of the trunk latch; on the latch jaws (bottom) is a switch that contacts the latch (top) this switch is broken or, mis-aligned it opens (stops the trunk motor) when the latch contacts it.
