Its a faulty instrument cluster...go to this youtube link to see one way to fix it...

"REPAIRING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DISPLAY/ODOMETER"
There are other videos you can find on youtube as well. I found one that showed how to get the panel out in order to fix it and there were some videos that offered to repair it if you shipped it to them. I think they wanted to charge $200 so maybe you'll have luck fixing it using the link above.

Speedometer work and do not work

I had the same problem with my rendezvous and there is a short term fix which is turn the key till the car gets power for 45 seconds and turn it off. Repeat several times till the gauges read normal. Again this is only a temp fix. I had to have my cluster fixed because you can't go to a junk yard and swap them out because the computer will not recognize the cluster. This means the mileage is incorrect and most dealerships will not reprogram them because of legal issues. To fix the cluster you have to get new motors and attach them to the back making sure you align them correctly or the cluster will display incorrect information. I spent 300 to fix my at a repair shop and gm will charges 850 here. Once the speedometer goes bad then the gas gauge will follow and the temp reader. Hope this works and it is usually easier to have a repair shop send it out and have it rebuilt. Removing the cluster is difficult too you will need to have the car in gear to slid the cluster out, but that's another answer.

How to fix odometer numbers fade in and out

Yes, unfortunately if the numbers are fading in and out, the circuit is going bad. There are 2 ways to fix. Of course your GM dealer will remove the gauge cluster and send it off to be repaired...usually a 1 year warranty. The least costly would be to replace the cluster yourself. Find a similar model in a salvage yard or online...and switch the cluster out yourself. This does alter the accurate mileage on your Sunbird however. Hope this helps.

I have a 1994 saturn and my gas hand does not work, neither does my mileage. is this a fuse and how do i fix it?

How much are you going to spend to fix two minor problems on a 500 dollar car. First you answer that question, then you look on www.youtube.com for a video of someone pulling an instrument cluster on a 91-95 Saturn. If you cannot find one then look for a repair manual on CD over on eBay for about 5 bucks. If pulling the cluster seems to be within your ability, then go looking for a used cluster at junkyards, craigslist, and ebay. Also keep your eye out for a Saturn odometer repair kit on eBay. Either you are going to buy a used cluster, repair it and install it or you are going to pull yours out fix the odometer and reinstall it. The broken odometer is a common Saturn fault and you may still find folks selling odometer repaired clusters for the early 90s Saturns on eBay.
The gas gauge is problematic in that you are going to have to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel level sender, while you are in there do the pump as well and save duplicating the labor next year.
I think there are folks out there selling the pump and sender combined for about 200 dollars.
When you have spent a lot of time and money fixing these minor problems, you will still have a 500 dollar car. I think you could buy a good later model for less money, I had 4 Saturns and I think the 99 was the best year, stay with a manual transmission.

My 2004 Trailblazer instrument cluster has stopped functioning. The Tach, speedo, oil press, gas, and temp guages spin irregularly and their readings at this point are meaningless. The only things that do...

Hello Mcook389,
If you have above average soldering and de-soldering skills you can perform the repair yourself.
I have repaired many GM instrument clusters and without question this issue is affecting GM instrument cluster all over the country. The particular item that is giving you the bad gauge readings is the stepper motor that drives each gauge.
Please visit my website for complete repair information if you decide to outsource the repair. www.kincerservice.com
Thanks Mike

Just bought this car, and speedometer/lights do not work.

I had a problem similar to this on a previous car, and I had two ways to fix it. I'll give you the least expensive one first. In either case, you'll need to remove your instrument cluster. If you need help with this, I can consult you further.

The first thing to try is checking the back of the instrument panel, where the connectors are. If they look dirty, clean them and their mating area with rubbing alcohol, and allow to dry. When this is done, inspect the connectors to make sure that they are not damaged. Then it might be a good idea to check your indicator bulbs too. Now, reinsert the gauge cluster and see if it work.

If that doesn't work, then you might need to replace your gauge cluster. This will be easy, as I am personally looking for a replacement cluster for my own MX-6 on eBay, and there's a lot of them. They're decently priced, and if your vehicle is exempt from mileage requirements on the title, this makes it a LOT easier.

Rundown - Check the gauges. Clean the connectors. Check the bulbs. If all else fails, get a new cluster.

Let me know if this helps. Good luck!

Gauges not working

Ur instrument cluster is most probably the culprit. Smack the dashboard to see if it helps. If it does, bingo, most probably a bad weld on the cluster circuit board. Happens alot on VW's.
