Doing 30mph in 3rd gear suddenly cut out and stopped after 3 times trying to start it did ?
Ever do the 60k tune up (repeats) the decade?
cuts outs are: many !
1: lost 12v power to EFI systems. (voltmeter time)
2: lost compression,
3: bad spark, (tune up )
4:bad fueling. (filters clogged, again the 60k, ends this)
5: egr sticking, open, the 60k we clean it.
there are tests for each.
but will add one.
1: can you save the stall , with a fast right foot....
easy? tad hard? or impossible.
this is key.

SOURCE: honda civic 2003 transmission
Its possible that your transmissions Shift Solonoids could be acting erratically, either because they themselves are faulty, or the transmission's ECU is faulty, or maybe even the wiring between the two is somewhat faulty.
However it is also possible that your transmission's Speed Governor is holding too much pressure and doesn't realize it needs to downshift when you start slowing down.
Thirdly it is also possible that your Torque-Converter lockup may be siezed, or the wiring feeding it may be faulty.
Transmission repairs are usually somewhat pricey, and difficult to pinpoint, and fix, and I'm sorry to say that most of these causes to your problem really can't be checked without pulling the transmission out of the car, and disassembling it to see what the problem is.

SOURCE: 1998 Honda Accord transmission problem
This transmission have shift solenoids that are mounted on the outside in my personal experience I have rectified shift problem with these transmissions by simply change a solenoid or two. My recommendation is to put this vehicle on a code scanner and find out what is at fault first. If its a solenoid just replace, they are a dealer only part and that should take care of your problem. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA

SOURCE: transmisson car stay at 3rd gear
Thats a common issue with the TCM when is about to go out.. Once you get to 3rd gear take you foot off the pedal the if you let go of the pedal and slowly accelerate it should go in 3rd gear. You can order a unit from this site with a lifetime warranty. Good Luck and the HONDA on the road.

This is a fuel system problem.
Check the fuel pump located in the fuel tank beneath the back seat, and the fuel filter located in the hood.
