The shorter wire which connects to the chassis is the negative or ground wire. The long wire that routes down under the engine and to the starter solenoid is the positive.
the other smaller wires are a little more difficult.
The smaller wires that eventually wind up going to ground are of course the negative. The others mostly go to the little solenoid on the right front fender just in front of the fuse box go to the positive terminal.
Good luck!

Which wires ? the ones connected to the battery? or the wiring harness? if it's the battery cables then the large wire is the positive side normally red and the negative side is black and is half the size of the positive wire. The battery will have a + and a - on it so you know that the positive wire is + the larger wire and the smaller is black.

Negative battery terminal

normally there is only one earth wire on a battery as all units earth through this wire to the negative terminal. I would not bother trying to reconnect the cut wires as this will lead to problems further on. Go to a wrecker that handles you model vehicle and get the positive terminal wiring loom and replace all the cut wires . Leave the negative terminal off while you are doing this.

1993 Explorer just relaced the positive battery cable and it attempts to start while starter wire is touching actually had to cut that wire so it would stop trying to turn over and this was happening with...

you attached the other end of the battery cable that goes to the starter solenoid to the other side of the solenoid it seems. Look at where your cables go on the solenoid, it usually tells you on it

How do I change the battery cable connector for 1998 ford explorer? The connector and the cable is one unit.

YOU CAN CUT THE BATTERY CABLE END OFF, IF THERE WILL BE ENOUGH CABLE LEFT TO ATTACH A NEW END. HOWEVER, IF THE END IS BAD, THE REST OF THE CABLE MAY BE CORRODED.. IF THAT IS THE CASE, THE WHOLE CABLE SHOULD BE REPLACED. THAT IS THE BEST WAY ANYWAY. REPLACE THE WHOLE CABLE. WHATEVER YOU DO DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE CABLE BEFORE YOU START TO WORK ON EITHER CABLE.

1993 Ford Explorer heat/air controls

you will need to remove the climate controls from the dash and check to see if the cable has fallen off.........the other end of the cable is behind the glove box, removing it should give you access to check if it has fallen off there. replaacement cables and clips to hold it at the ends are probably only avail at a ford dealer
Hope this helps!

1993 Ford Explorer wont start

I remember reading in the owners manuel of my 93 exploer about a cut off button. If wont allow your car to start if you are in an accident, and sometimes, even if you hit a pot hole or bump too hard, this can also trigger it. It can be reset though, and I believe it is located between the front and back seats in the middle. Not sure where, because it has been a month or more since I read it. But maybe some else knows just where to look.

1993 ford explorer - toublshooting fuse/electical problem

I believe the fuse for your starter is in the power distribution box, 93 explorer 4.0L 4X4. find diagram for this in Chilton Ford Ranger/Explorer/Mountaineer 1991-1999 Repair Manual 26688 page 6-43 Fig.88 Be aware that there are (4) figures for the 93 4.0L explorer and each shows a different part of the same engine wiring. See top right 'power distribution box' follow lines to the part of your engine you are concerned with, which fuse number, then look inside your engine, passenger fender, push down on the protective ?wall then pull the cover up, see your diagram and fuse numbers. The diagram for inside fuse box, page 6-31 fig.63 I hope this helps
