2005 grand Cherokee service tire pressure system


I found this on another site, it may help to understand what is happening, I also saw that there is a problem with the valve stems cracking since they're made out of aluminum and causing that problem. Here's the explanation provided on another site:

If a customer with a 2005 or later DaimlerChrysler vehicle equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) is concerned that the TPM lamp is on continuously, please be sure to inform the customer that the system is in place to warn of a low tire pressure situation, and a system diagnosis may not be required. The customer should be aware of the following: The Tire Pressure Monitoring (TPM) System will warn the driver of a low tire pressure based on the vehicle recommended cold placard pressure (the placard is located on the drivers side B-pillar).
The tire pressure will vary with temperature by about 6.9 kPa (1 psi) for every 6.5 Degrees C (12 Degrees F). This means that when the outside temperature decreases, the tire pressure will decrease - the customer should adjust his tire pressure for this decrease in pressure - please refer the customer to his vehicle owner's manual for information on how to properly inflate his vehicle's tires. The tire pressure will also increase as the vehicle is driven - this is normal and there should be no adjustment for this increased pressure.
The TPM System will warn the driver of a low tire pressure if the tire pressure falls below the low pressure warning threshold for any reason, including low temperature effects.
The TPM System will continue to warn the driver of low tire pressure as long as the condition exists, and will not turn off until the tire pressure is at or above recommended cold placard pressure. Once the low tire pressure warning has been illuminated, the tire pressure must be increased to the recommended cold placard pressure in order for the TPM warning lamp to be turned off. The system will automatically update and the TPM warning lamp will extinguish once the updated tire pressures have been received. The vehicle may need to be driven for up to 10 minutes above 25 kph (15 mph) to receive this information.


FOR EXAMPLE:

A 2006 300 has a recommended cold (parked for more than 3 hours) placard of 207 kPa (30 psi).

If the ambient temperature is 18 Degrees C (65 Degrees F) and the measured tire pressure is 186 kPa (27 psi) the TPM lamp will be OFF.

IF NOTHING IS DONE TO THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRES and the ambient temperature drops to 20 Degrees F (-7 Degrees C) while the vehicle is parked, the approximate tire pressure will be 157 kPa (23 psi) and the TPM lamp will be ON.

IF THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN TO REACH NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE

WITHOUT ADJUSTING THE AIR PRESSURE and the ambient temperature stays at -7 Degrees C (20 Degrees F), the approximate tire pressure will rise to 186 kPa (27 psi) and the 1PM lamp will be ON.

To turn the TPM lamp OFF the tires must be inflated to the vehicle recommended cold placard pressure.

In order to properly maintain vehicle tire pressure, please refer to the owner's manual for additional information regarding tire inflation.

NOTE :Tire pressure should always be set based on cold inflation tire pressure (defined as the tire pressure after a vehicle has not been driven for more than 3 hours - and in outside ambient temperature).

Seasonal temperature changes will affect tire pressure, and the TPM system will monitor the actual tire pressure in the tire.
If a diagnosis of the system is required (for example, the lamp did not extinguish, or the lamp is flashing), please refer to service information available in TechCONNECT for additional information for TPM diagnosis. Please be aware that if the Wireless Control Module (WCM) is replaced, the TPM placard values may need to be reprogrammed. The TPM placard values do NOT need to be updated if the WCM has NOT been replaced, the TPM placard values are properly set at the factory.

2004 chrysler pacifica service tire system light is on. Replaced tires all around and aligned.


Make sure that your tire pressure sensors were not damaged. one simple way to check what tire sensor is causing the problem is to lower each tire individually and check to see if the message displays to a different tire or more than 1, depending on the TPM system your pacifica has. Chrysler has a TPM (tire pressure monitor) tester which can check each individual sensor for correct operation. and the sensor's batteries have typically a 5-7 year life span.

TPM is alarming every 30 seconds since the weather went cold. How do I silence the alarm..... I know how to reset the TPM but that doesn't work.


Cold weather causes air to condense and air pressure to be reduced, causing your tires to read low pressure to the TPM. Check and fill all your tires to your recommended vehicle inflation pressure, to stop the TPM from alarming you every 30 seconds.

TPM light stays on. All 4 tires have 26 lbs of air. What is recommended tire pressure?


32 psi is the usual recommended pressure but you may have to fill the tires to 35 psi to make the TPM system reset. That's how most systems recognize that you have serviced the tires. Most TPM systems will indicate low tire pressure around 26-28 psi.

It either has Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM), or Flat Tire Monitor (FTM)

TPM:Checks the tire inflation pressure in the four mounted tires. The system indicates if the tire inflation pressure has dropped considerably in one or several tires.

FTM:Keeps track of the inflation pressures in the four mounted tires as you drive. The system triggers an alert whenever the inflation pressure drops significantly in relation to the pressure in another tire.

Give it a couple days and see if it resets itself. Some times computers are stubbern like mechanics.

Had 4 new tires installed system blinked for 2 days on and off. now ligth stays on. how do you reset the light? all tires are at 35 psi.


It is possible that one of the sensors was damaged when they replaced the tires. If this occurred, the light will remain lit. Otherwise, after a pressure change the light will automatically turnoff after driving several minutes above 25MPH.

There is also a Nissan TPM reset tool which is designed to turn off the TPM warning light in 2003 and newer Nissan vehicles that have the TPM reset connector. Check your owner's manual to see if your vehicle has the connector. You can find the reset tool online for about $25.

How do I reset the low tire warning light?


TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR RESET PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: There are 3 different ways to reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM) system. After resetting, the TPM system requires up to 30 minutes of straight line driving in each of the 3 speed ranges to complete the calibration process.If the TPM system does not reset, or DTC C1245 remains current, refer to Diagnostic System Check - Tire Pressure Monitoring. For further information, refer to Tire Pressure Monitor Description and Operation.

USING THE EXTERIOR LAMP SWITCH
  1. Adjust all tire pressures to the recommended kPa/psi. Refer to Tire Placard.
  2. Turn "ON" the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Cycle the exterior lamp switch from "OFF" to parking lamps 3 times within 5 seconds.
  4. Use the scan tool in order to clear the TPM DTC.
USING THE RDS RADIO, IF EQUIPPED
  1. Adjust all tire pressures to the recommended kPa/psi. Refer to Tire Placard.
  2. Turn the ignition to "ACC" or "ON", with the engine OFF.
  3. Turn the radio "OFF".
  4. Press and hold the "DISP" button until "SETTINGS" is displayed.
  5. Press the "SEEK" up or down arrows until "TIRE MON" is displayed.
  6. Press the "PREV" or "NEXT" button to enter the submenu. "RESET" will be displayed.
  7. Press the "DISP" button, A chime will sound and "DONE" will be displayed.
  8. Scroll until "EXIT" is displayed.
  9. Press the "DISP" button to exit the TPM reset mode. A chime will sound to verify exit.
  10. Use the scan tool in order to clear the TPM DTC

Check tpm system comes up on screen, when u first start auto, then changes to wheel pressure screen, what do i do to reset


As long as the tires are all within 3 psi of each other ,The system will automatically reset and the TPM warning lamp will go off, once the updated tire pressures have been received. The vehicle may need to be driven for up to 10 minutes above 15 mph to receive this information.

A system fault can occur by any of the following scenarios:
1) Jamming due to electronic devices or driving next to facilities emitting the same Radio Frequencies as the TPM sensors.
2) Installing some form of aftermarket window tinting that affects radio wave signals.
3) Lots of snow or ice around the wheels or wheel housings.
4) Using tire chains on the vehicle.
5) Using wheels/tires not equipped with TPM sensors."

Also, if you have the premium TPM system, the spare tire being low could trigger it, or with either the base or premium system, if you have a flat and change to a spare, the original flat tire could keep it from re-setting. And of course, a faulty sensor could be the problem.

There is a re-setting tool, but that should only be needed if the tire positions are changed (like if you rotate your tires), and that's only so that it can accurately tell you which tire is low, as opposed to turning off a warning light.

Unhooking the battery will NOT reset it

Programming TPM Sensors
1. Turn the ignition to ON.
2. Press the key fob lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for several seconds. The horn will chirp when the TPM
programming mode is activated. Important: If the TPM programming mode cannot be entered, check if the DIM is
configured with the correct RPO codes.
3. Starting with the Left Front Tire
4. Install the J 41760 over the left front valve stem. Magnets from Radio Shack, P/N 64-1888 (at $2.99), will also work.
They're too small to go over the valve stem cap, but once you remove it they slip over the valve stem just fine
instead of the GM tool.
5. The horn will sound, indicating the Left Front TPM sensor is programmed. Important: If the horn does not sound after
15 seconds, remove then reinstall the TPM sensor programming tool or place the magnet alongside the valve stem.
6. When the horn sounds, proceed to program the next TPM sensor in the following order:
o Right Front Tire
o Right Rear Tire
o Left Rear Tire
7. After the Left Rear sensor is programmed, the horn will sound twice to indicate programming is complete.
Programming Cancellation
1. The programming mode will be canceled if any of the following conditions are met:
o The ignition is turned OFF.
o All four sensors have been programmed.
o The TPM system has been in the program mode for longer than 5 minutes and no sensors have been learned.
2. If more then one minute has passed before the next sensor is programmed, all previously stored codes are
erased from the receiver's memory.
after driving around for a few blocks, if the pressure does not match the tire pressure for each wheel, then the sensor is bad.
