what you have to do is make sure door lock is in unlocked position put a flash light inside the door to see you need to get a screwdriver into the release spring area try to pry up on the hook area that flips over the piece thats mounted to the door jam it should release sounds like you need to spray wd or blaster in the lock assembly return spring not kicking back

it sounds like the lock actuator inside the door has frozen. if that is the case, you will have to remove the inner door panel partially or fully to gain access to the actuator.if you press down on the door lock knob, does it move down.if not I would definitely suspect a failed actuator.

The electric motor is designed to release if you try to open it by hand, chances are the lock assembly has come apart in the door, and it is usually a $2 plastic clip that causes hours of frustration. to get to it you would need to pull the inner pannel off the door.
