Is it possible to change oil seals on an engine with the heads still on the block?


easier with motor out if doing the lot

with engine in
yes any seal that can be reached from the out side of head and block
rocker cover seal s
valve stem seals
any coolant or oil seals
front timing cover seal
cam seals

rear engine seal
if it is a round seal and in a holding cradle at the back of the cank needs gearbox detached

check
on most gm motor needs the crank taken out to do the rear engine seal properly

I have a 87 samurai that I rebuilt the engine. What position should the pistons and valves be in before I bolt the head down. Ken

I recieved Code 12 from diagnosis


For 83-86 Camry, 87 corolla, 84-87 pickups and 4-runner: Code 12 = knock sensor or circuit (distributor or circuit on Cressida, Supra, and Celica 3S-GE)

87-90 Camry, all other models 88-90: Code 12 = Rpm signal/no NE or G signal to ECU within several seconds after engine is cranked.

All models from 1991 on: Code 12 = Rpm signal No "Ne" signal to the ECM within several seconds after the engine is cranked. No "G" signal to the ECM two times in Succession when engine speed is between 500 rpm and 4000 rpm.

We want to change timing belt in 87 acura 5 door intergra 1.6 and also replace all belts and water pump we do not know all parts to get could you give me a list? It has air conditioning too thank you for...


1) Belts: Timing belt, alternator belt, A/C belt, power steering belt.
2) Water pump and seal.
3) Timing belt tensioner- option.
4) Front crank oil seal-replace if oil is leaking.
5) Two camshaft seals-replace if oil is leaking.
6) Instruction on how to install the timing belt.

Dose a 351ford have a one piece rear seal or two piece seal


all crankshaft/block seals are 2 peice one peice is installed in block above cranksahaft then crankshaft installed 2nd peice is installed in oil pan oil pan then bolted to block to complete the seal same for front seal i really dont know how one would put a one peice seal on a crank look at a crank and let me know if you could figure that one out

Oil leak on a 87 caravan 3.0 V-6


Yes you can replace this in the car. You'll need to remove the front of the motor which includes the timing belt and harmonic balancer. The oil pump on the engine runs off of a gear pump from the crank. If the seal fails it will leak like the dickens. On a scale of 1-10 this jobs a 6 however with patients and the right tools you can have it done in six or so hours. Be certain to have engine properly timed on assembly. Go ahead and replace the timing belt and tensioner while you have it apart.

The attached may help you a bit. When you install the new lip seal use a piece of PVC pipe to make a tool to press the seal back in squarely.

How hard is it to replace the rear main seal in a '87 Samurai?


Is it a 4x4 if it is you would have to seperate the tranny from transfer case and drive shaft tp change out seal.If not just drop the drive shaft and replace seal.We are talking about the rear seal at the end of the tranny.

Crank shaft movement


did you check the pulley on the crank shaft ??
is it warped ?? ( bent )
because i do not think that the truck will run with the crankshaft moving.....back and forth.
so in any case you have a lot of work to do.
here is how to remove the crank shaft.
REMOVAL
  1. Remove the oil pan.
  2. Remove the oil pump from the rear main bearing cap.
  3. Remove the vibration damper.
  4. Remove the timing chain cover.
  5. Identify bearing caps before removal. Remove bearing caps and bearings one at a time.
  6. Lift the crankshaft out of the block.
  7. Remove and discard the crankshaft rear oil seals.
  8. Remove and discard the front crankshaft oil seal.
INSTALLATION
  1. Lightly oil the new upper seal lips with engine oil.
  2. Install the new upper rear bearing oil seal with the white paint facing towards the rear of the engine.
  3. Position the crankshaft into the cylinder block.
  4. Lightly oil the new lower seal lips with engine oil.
  5. Install the new lower rear bearing oil seal into the bearing cap with the white paint facing towards the rear of the engine.
    1. Apply 5 mm (0.20 inch) drop of Loctite 518, or equivalent, on each side of the rear main bearing cap. DO NOT over apply sealant or allow the sealant to contact the rubber seal. Assemble bearing cap to cylinder block immediately after sealant application.
    2. lb align the bearing cap, use cap slot, alignment dowel and cap bolts. DO NOT remove excess material after assembly. DO NOT strike rear cap more than 2 times for proper engagement.
    3. Clean and oil all cap bolts. Install all main bearing caps. Install all cap bolts and alternately tighten to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) torque.
    4. Install oil pump.
    5. Install the timing chain cover.
    6. Install the vibration damper.
      1. Apply Mopar Silicone Rubber Adhesive Sealant, or equivalent, at bearing cap to block joint to provide cap to block and oil pan sealing. Apply enough sealant until a small amount is squeezed out. Withdraw nozzle and wipe excess sealant off the oil pan seal groove.
      2. Install new front crankshaft oil seal.
      3. Immediately install the oil Dan.
