Question about Cars & Trucks

Starts, idle is good, but lose's power and then die's

When the car is idling it is okay. But when you start to drive it will just lose power and the struggle to keep running, then usually die. The car is a Fiat X1/9 1982 1.5 5 speed. Have changed all the electrics/ignition parts. Have just re timed the dizzy and head to the correct degree etc. Also when it happens if i restrict the airflow going into the carb with my hand it seems to run okay. But will still struggle to move if hand is kept there.

The reason seems to be vacuum leak. Try replacing the vacuum hose. Vacuum in engine is used to pump the fuel in engine cylinder and to keep the ride in proper working condition. Vacuum leak can be one of the symptoms responsible for vacuum leak.

I had the same problem with My 1990 F150 300 6cylinder 4x4.....I cahnged all the same things you did, finally I sprayed a can of Gumout through the throttle body and it worked and ran great. Now I add fuel injector cleaner to the gas and a regular clean with the gumout and the problem has'nt come back. Good Luck to you and hope it works!

SOURCE: Seems like it does not idle at correct speed

Idle air control motor located where the duct from your breather attaches to you intake, two bolts and a plug, probably has what looks like a black button on it. This is a very common problem on all fords.

High idle in park pontiac 04 grand am

Do you have a place where they can check the engine for contamination? Mine had a similar problem it would die after slowing down at the junction, Ask your mechanic to clean the engine and also check the throttle sensor and it will be good as new.

Good luck

I have a 99' bmw 323ic and my problem is it idles erratically and when it does it starts to lose power. Any Ideas?

hi there,

it sounds like one of three problems a faulty knock sensor/throttle position sensor/or idle valve sensor

sadly only way to know is diagnostic check up and see the fault code

It sounds like you might have a clogged catalatic converter on the exhaust system.

Van dies after 10 min drive when pulling into

Try removing the idle speed motor on side of throttle body, and spray it clean, as well as the port it came out of, with throttle body spray cleaner. Don't pull and extend shaft of idle motor, just leave it in position it's in, and make sure you don't lose small "O" ring on idle motor. Re-install and try it. If it cures it for a while, then starts to do it again, replace the idle speed motor.

Loses the power and starts stalling

The IAC valve requires resetting .
First locate the IAC valve located on the side of the throttle body and has 4 wires going to it .Procedure is as follows
Ignition key on ,unplug the IAC ,turn key off ,reconnect the IAC .do this 3-4 times .restart the car and hold the rpm at 2000 rpm and slowly lower until it idles by it self .

Truck losing power and service engine soon light on

Like to other guy said, give it a tuneup. Also try SEAFOAM to clean carb up of slug. Also check to make sure the butter fly for the choke has not come loose, causing it the choke it down. Failed choke pull-off.
