Question about Cars & Trucks
Hi i have a 1994 ford taurus axod 17 bolt automatic transmission. Whats happening is its not shifting past 2nd gear. This problem comes and goes like this, for two months its shifts fine and acts well then suddenly it doesent shift past 2nd gear and remains that way for a few months then goes back to working fine again for a while then does it all over again back and forth . Whats wrong with it? what should i check? I replaced the speed sensor and checked fluid level so far. What do you recommend i do . Thanks in advance , john

1st thing to do is test the system for codes, the problem is most likely a failed or stuck shift solenoid indside the trans, have you ever serviced the trans, sometimes a fluid and filter cahnge will cure these kinds of issues.

If it has over 60000 miles it may need a transmission service, which includes a filter and fluid change, fluid may look fine but if filter is clogged and not picking up fluid fast enough when u give it gas the pump spins faster and forces fluid thru to shift, more fluid is needed to shift into higher gear.than to drive

it has a problem with the second gear drum it cracks and does not fully engauge the n shifts to 3rd ..many honda owners also learn the 8 bucks a quart is the only fluid to pour in a honda..but remember 3 qaurts per drain and fill the tranny holds 7q ....it will take a case to do a drain flush...a high pressure flush will ruin a automatic tranny with alot of miles or metal deposits floating around inside..DRAIN AND FILL 3 QUARTS AT A TIME NO GASKET NEEDED ITS BUILT AND DESIGNED LIKE A MANUAL TRANNY
