This is the big one - roughly every 60k miles the timing system needs replacement. This is the timing belt, accessory belt, water pump, thermostat, tensioning and idler pulleys, hydraulic damper, coolant flush, and other smaller jobs (cabin and engine air filters, oil/filter change, tire rotation, and inspection of brakes and suspension). A dealer is going to kill you on this - I've had people bring me quotes of up to $1500 for replacement of the timing belt alone (none of the other components included). This is a critical service though - at this point you can expect wear on the timing tensioner components and if the belt jumps or those parts fail, you'll need a new cylinder head. Check your local craigslist automotive services section, ask friend's with German cars, etc to find an independent mechanic to perform the work - don't go to a Chevy guy for this. If you're in the northeast US, I can handle it for you. Depending on location I may be able to recommend someone nearby as well (feel free to contact me at email@example.com for information).
