SOURCE: Mitsubishi shogun has transmission warning light

if the shift is being made and the car is in gear it will not change ,in some cases it is necesary to reverse a few times to allow shifts to occur if this still fails you could have a sticky solonoid ,these are mounted on the r/f inner guard there are two of the next to each other make sure there is vacume at the solonoids as the car will allways fail in 4wd mode it requires vacume to allow it to disengage the front diff on start up,that is why there is a grinding noise if you switch off the motor and free wheel to a stop the front diff tries to engage

For check engine light on,its definitely error code stored in the cars computer.,Getting the error code scanned by OBD 1 scan too, is advisable.

I intend to buy a 3rd hand Mitsubishi RVR, '96 model, ex-Japanese, converted to LHD (Philippines). It has A/T and the 2.0 ltrs DOHC engine. In a quick inspection, I found a yellow warning light on the...

Its proper name is an 'Engine Malfunction Light', and yes, you need to take it to any garage and they will tell you what the code is and what it is indicating. They are not all serious. I may even be an oil change reminder :>) Most garages will read the code for free. It takes about 30 seconds to do. The OBD11 port is under the dashboard on the ORIGINAL drivers side by the drivers knee.

Wanting to find out what a warning light means any sites that show what the warning lights mean on a 1999 mitsubishi diamante

When the warning light comes on, your car generates an error code which is helped to diagnose the problem.

Got a local mechanic or most any auto parts stores (usually free) and ask them to scan your OBD2 port.

Their scanner will download the error code and then they can tell you what the code means and start you in the right direction to make repairs.

Hi there,

Your vehicle's computer will reveal the problem/s, if you're willing to access it.

You can do this by locating the Datalink connector (found under the dash, above your knee) which looks like this:

3c120c7.gif
With the key in OFF position:

- Using a jumper wire (or paperclip), join pin no's 1 & 4.
- Turn key to ON

Your Engine Check light (an possibly other warning lights too) will now start flashing.

How to read codes:
Slow flashes are the 1st digit, fast flashes are the 2nd digit.
(NB: there will be a pause between codes)

If the ABS or AIRBAG lights flash as well, then the above code flashes also apply.

Once you have all the codes, post your results here and we will be happy to direct you from then on...

Cheers,

Scott

Where is the plug for 97 mit. mirage to plug in the computer diagno. so i can read the code

Hi there,

The 16pin Diagnostic plug is situated inside the vehicle, usually under the dash, above the knee of the driver (on either side of vehicle).

This is what it looks like:

35d12b0.gif
If you do not have the appropriate scanner, you can retrieve the computer diagnostics by the following process:

1) turn key 'off'
2) connect pins 1 & 4 of the connector (using a suitable jumper wire)
3) turn key to 'on' (do not run engine)
4) any fault codes present, will flash the appropriate warning light on the instrument cluster. E.g. if you have an ABS fault, the ABS warning light will flash. If you have an EFI issue, the Engine Light will flash etc.

Cheers,
