originally the battery was not holding a charge, i kept charging it for the last few mornings and i realized something is draining it, i opened the trunk with the remote to see if maybe my truck light was staying on when lid was closed, after i made sure that wasn't the problem i tried to close the trunk and it would not close, i am now wondering if maybe there's something wrong with the trunk motor and maybe this is causing all the problems. is this possible

No the battery now is not dead, it has a full charge, and the trunk still won't go down. i have now disconnected the trunk motor and am leaving it over night to see if my battery keeps it's charge than i know it is the trunk motor , if car doesn't start in the am then i know it's not the trunk motor. thank you if i'm wrong please tell me

Ok, you have an auto trunk opener/pulldown. The battery is dead and you opened the trunk with key. SO, now here is what happened. The trunk pulldown motor and latch did not go up as it normally does, in order to catch the the trunk lid as you close it. Connect a battery charger to the battery or put jumper cables on with another car. It should raise. If not flip the little lever on the BLACK switch near pull down latch.

If you have a battery drain whether it be caused by the trunk motor or not, Did you disconnect and charge battery ? If left connected whatever is draining the battery, continues to drain even with a battery charger on. So if left connected you're charging for nothing. Battery isnt building up. If there a problem with trunk motor causing the drain, you would see the trunk going up and down a couple of inches, and hear the motor. It only wont close because the battery is dead

Battery drain

You can check with a 12v test light or an amp meter. If you take off one of the battery terminal ends, (preferably the negative) and run the test light or amp meter in series from the battery post to the cable end, see if it lights up.

If it does, then you will want to start pulling fuses one by one until it goes out. When it goes out, then that is the circuit that is causing the draw. If not, then the battery is bad, as it can't hold a charge.

The recommendation for maximum parasitic drain is around 30 mA (0.030 amp). A typical drain today actually falls into the 7-12 mA range, even though some vehicles do approach the maximum. Multiply the drain (in amps) by the time (in hours) the battery sits without being recharged. The result is the amount of AH consumed by the parasitic drain. The actual drain may be small, but over time the battery grows steadily weaker.

Just remember to keep all of the doors closed when you do this and disconnect the hood light if there is one, thanks

Have your alternator checked at an auto parts store. It sounds like it isn't keeping up with the drain on yuor battery.

1988 318i can be jump started but will drain any new battery if left inoperable for more than a few hrs. Have checked fuses, changed batteries, and disconnectd all stereo equipt. Help...

a serious drain you have going there, use a ohm meter and measure between the chassis and the reciving end of the fuse,(not the side connected to the + of the battery, ) if the resistance is very low on one, you have a short in that cirquit, look for anything close to or below 1.2 ohm (equals 10A, or approx 5 hrs on a fully charged new 60 Ah battery)

To Determine were it is, Pull Fuses out 1 by 1 Watching Light puting Fuse back in When you Pull a Fuse that turns the Test light off you found the Circuit that is Draining the Battery if it is A Circuit that Remote Starter is Connect to refer to Installer to Correct the Problem

NOTE TEST Light Connected this way and Electrical System in Tact Light WILL NOT BE LIT at ALL
