Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier
I have an electrical issue with my used Cavalier. When I bought it the only problem I noticed was the digital milage gage didn't work properly unless you hold down the button. Then, my radio started to turn itself on and off while trying to play a tape that wasn't in the deck. That finaly has stopped, but then the dom light is now turning itself on and off with or without the car running. I have taken to a shop, but they don't know what it is. I have someone who suggested either the ground wire has gone bad, or the door sensor is bad. Please help.
The radio and digital gauge sound like worn out.interior light coming on by itself could be faulty door ajar switch.

now this may be a long shot... but i had a similar problem on my cutlass. but it wasnt wiring...... it was from the tube running from the head of my engine...... the smell and smoke were coming from hot oil coming out of the crank case vent tube and then being sucked into the air inlet for the heater/ ac.
since a electrical wire's protective cover is petroleum based as is oil.... they smell very similar

Check the radio fuse? Box is drivers side end of dash(drivers door open)or pass side end of dash(passenger door open)
police models have a connection for the speakers (passenger floorboard under floor mat) to connect the speakers to the police radios.
If they had the speakers connected to their radios, they may have unhooked them and not connected them back to the radio.
The wires are brown, grey, blue and light blue. All into a blue connector.

Is it the whole cluster not working at all or is it just the speedometer not working? If its just the speedometer it could be simply the vehical speed sensor if its the whole cluster there most like is a problem within the cluster causing it not to work, firstly i would check all the fuses for the instrument panel and make sure there all good, check the plug behind going into the cluster and make sure its secure, if all of that checks out then you might be looking at a replacement on the whole cluster assembly, which is not a cheap item....

this sounds like a crank position sensor issue, however check the condition of the battery and for tight battery connections first. The blower motor may be another issue, blower motor relay or a loose or burnt connection at the blower motor or the blower motor resistor and lastly a bad blower motor.
If your check engine light is on have the codes read. This may help you in finding the problem.
