Question about Volkswagen Jetta

Car not getting spark

I have a 1990 Volkswagen Jetta GL 1.8L 5 speed. I was driving down the highway one day, and it is just turned off on me. I couldn't pop start it or turn the key to start it. I have replaced the Cap and Rotor, spark plug wires, igniton coil, Ignition control module. Nothing seems to get the car started. I have no idea, any suggestions?

SOURCE: Car won't start

Did you put a multimeter on the coil and check for voltage coming out of the coil? To do this put the ground lead of the meter on the battery ground, then turn the ignition on and touch the positive lead of the meter to the coil. It should read around 12 volts.

SOURCE: car turns over wont start..replaced rotor and cap

if the basics have been done check the timing, i have seen a few of these cars the camshaft breaks, quick way is just do a compression check on each cylinder, check for fuel pressure and enough spark is coming out of the coil.

SOURCE: car wont start, not getting spark

crankshaft sensor, or computer on toyotas then it was usually the distributor or the computer, but the crankshaft sensor might be bad too thats what helps to get you spark.

How do I build/repair a damaged wiring harness for a 1984 VW Jetta GL 1.6L non-turbo diesel 5 speed, manual steering?

You could try to just cut out the bad part and solder in the new wire to the good part of the old. Also clean up the affected area.

1990 Volkswagen Jetta (manual transmission). While I was driving it just STOPPED. What is the most likely problem?

Well it needs air spark and fuel to run so make sure the air box isn't clogged squirrels and chipmunks like to build nests in them, then check the fuel pump and fuses to make sure you have fuel and then check for spark. then check the idle air controller (IAC) crank and cam sensors and mas air flow sensors.

First thing to do is change the fuel filter, spark plug wires, spark plugs, and air filter. If this does not solve the problem then I would have the fuel injection system cleaned out and also change the oxygen sensor

EPC means Electronic Pedal Control. Fly-by-wire for your gas pedal--instead of a mechanical cable that pulls an accelerator linkage on the engine, there's an electronic device on the gas pedal, an electronic device on the throttle body and a wire between them.
You should check the sistem with diagnostic tool.
