If you lift the hand brake you should find an adjustment nut (I think it is 10MM). Tighten that and you should be good to go. Be careful, it doesn't take much to adjust - turn gradually/slowly.

i hope i was able to help you with your problem! tc!

First check your brake fluid. It may be low. If its low, have your brakes checked, they may be worn out and you may need brakes. If the master cylinder is tottaly empty, than you may have a leak. Here is a quick test for the E-brake switch. Look at the "brake light" while its on and pul on the e-brake while you are holding the release button in the handle. Pump the e-brake lever repeadetly and observe the "brake light" if it gets brighter and dimmes as you are pumping the e-brake lever., than the swithc is OK and you have a low brake fluid level. Hope this helps. let me know what you find.

SOURCE: Red Brake light comes on when driving (not handbrake light)

Possibly the brake fluid level low inside the master cylinder so when you brake the fluid moves inside and the contact is made when the fluid moves to the one side of the reservoir, could also be the brake booster that is faulty. Some vehicles were equiped with a sensor that conects up to the booster which monitor the vacuum inside the booster and if the vacuum is very low it switches the same light on as the hand brake. Everything is conected in the same circuit. Hope it will help

The first thing you do is check and make sure the brake light work, the reason is the park solenoid is powered up by the brake light circuit.

1997 nissan pathfinder le 3.3l - Brake lights won't turn off - replaced stop switch and relay combo already. any ideas?

The brake switch will stop all current to the brake lights. As soon as the brake pedal moves just off of its fully up position, the switch makes contact and passes current on to the brake lights. You can operate it by hand to check if everything is right. izzit adjustable? The switch is the last thing in the path to the brake bulbs, so it has to work right, right off the brake pedal!

My brake lights are not working. Bulbs look good, and it doesn't seem right that they would both fail. Fuse is good, and I checked voltage at the fuse box and get about 9.3 volts DC when I press down...

When the brake light is illuminated on the dash, it may not be because the hand brake is engaged. It can also mean that your breaking system is in distress. it is possible that you have a short somewhere between the fuse panel & light assembly or it is possible that the sensor for your rear brakes has malfunctioned. I apologize that I am not as knowledgeable on Nissan products, however I had a similar situation with a Dodge Durango, only to discover that the rear brakes were not functioning. I hope this helps =)

Check the brake pedal's suspension; you should find the brake light switch there and it has either failed or its mounting bracket needs to be adjusted.

Misplace/Broken switch located next to the back of hand brake. Hand brake is on. Low brake fluid. Check brake pads by removing tire. Change brake fluid if it's time.
