Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

Hello I have a 94' sentra and I have a problem with the brakes. It seems the front brakes are locked up and I cant seem to figure out the problem. I have changed the passengers side's rotor because I wore it out thin because I had no clue my caliper was sticking. In total I have changed both front rotors, calipers, pads and Brake hose.

Have someone push & release pedal while at wheel with problem. See if it takes a while or slow to release. If yes, have wrench ready on bleeder screw, and try again, if it sticks/holds, crack bleeder screw, if it releases, I'd replace hose.

SOURCE: 1994 GMC pickup front brakes are sticking.

By "sticking" I am assuming that you mean that the brakes are staying applied (calipers are not releasing)and burning the brake pads and rotors up.

The most common cause of this is brake hoses.

The hoses that connect your calipers to the steel brake lines have an inner lining and a reinforced outer "shell". sometimes the inner lining tears loose from the outer shell inside the hose. (It cannot be seen by "looking" at the hose.) The inner lining then starts to act similar to a "heart valve" where it allows fluid to be pushed down into the caliper, then collapses inside the hose, blocking the fluid from returning to the master cylinder when the pedal is released. This can happen just because of the age of the hose, but is more commonly caused by someone allowing the caliper to hang by the hose while replacing the brake pads without using anything to support the weight of the caliper.

To diagnose this condition, raise and support the vehicle and remove the wheels. Make sure that the transmission is in "Park" (Automatic Transmission) or "Neutral" (Manual Transmission) and apply the parking brake. Then start the engine and apply the service brake. (Press HARD on the pedal) Shut the engine off, release the service brake and open the bleeder screws on the calipers. If brake fluid squirts out of the bleeder screw under pressure, then the hoses are the cause of the calipers not releasing.

Soft brake pedal on 94 gmc sierra

in late model GM and Ford cars with quick take-up master cylinders, the quick take-up valve takes about 15 seconds to reseat after the brake pedal has been depressed, so you should wait at least 20 seconds before you press the pedal while bleeding. If the pedal is pumped too quickly while manually bleeding the system, you may never get the pedal to firm up. On a side note, did you check the level in the master cylinder after every 2 or 3 bleedin procedures? you could have been pumping air right back in the lines if the reservoir runs dry during the bleeding process.

what you have is a bugga-boo-something is shorting out or corroded-so what this does is to confuse the main cpu that controls the lights-check the light sockets for corrosion-check your wire harness for wires that are rubbed bare or broken- pinched-start with the lighting wires -unfortunately this problem that is confusing the cpu could be any where in the wiring harness-cheers Denny

96Nissan Sentra Drivers side door/trunk locks broken

my 97 had the same problem. if the key fits the lock and will turn the lock but the lock wont open the door then your problem lies in the linkage between the door lock cylinder and the locking mechanism.

if the key fits the lock and the lock wont turn at all, this is what happened to me, then your lock is seized. Ive actually seen this on alot of 95-99 sentras it seems to be some sort of design flaw. what I had to do was to replace the lock cylinder and locate a new key. the locks from a dealer are a little pricy so i went around to salvage yards, every nissan sentra from said year range door locks were all seized, I even tried the 200sx as its the same car but a 2 door, same problem. luckily i found out that the 94 nissan altimas have the same door locks so I dismantled the inside door panel of said altima and snagged both front door lock cylinders. i also got lucky as the key was still in the ignition, replaced both locks and got a key for about 20 bucks. depending on your problem you might need new lock cylinders

to me this sounds more like a wheel speed sensor than anything to do with the actual brakes itself, my brother had a similar problem with his 03 F150. i replaced the wheel speed sensors and the problem seemed to disapate.

How do I fix the brake switch on my 2001 sentra so the light goes off? Where is it located exactly?

Hello and thank you for using FixYa!

Here is a image on the location of the brake switch. It is either a twist lock type or it's locked in place by a 14 mm nut.

I wouldn't think that its a problem with abs , sounds like they didnt turn the drums right . they are probably still egg shaped (warped) thats why they lock-up before the front . I would replace them with new ones instead of having them turned . some drums get so warped that they cant get them back round .

Abs on dashboard stays lit all the time.

The only way to know axactly what happen is with a diagnostic computer.
Because the ABS use a Speed sensor on each of the wheels.
Hydraulic selenoids on the ABS box or Module..
If the light is on. its mean the Anti Lock Brake System is inactive., You gonna brake like any car with no ABS.
I hope this information work for you.
