There glued in you need to heat em up to remove em, or stick em in a vise and beat the h*** out of em. Its easier to heat em up but don't get crazy it don't take much

you will have to contact a shop that repairs cv joints and drive shafts
genuine ( same as generic) will be expensive
the real cost will be to remove the drive shaft to fit the boots
however there is a boot that can be fitted over the cv joint with removing the shaft
lot cheaper and con be done by anyone with a bit knowledge and tools
available from cv joint shops or some auto spares shops

remove lower ball joint and remove axle nut in the center of spindle. then move the spindle out of the way separating the axle from the spindle.

How do I remove my old cv axle on my 97 mercury mountaineer?


remove the brake caliper and rotor then undo the axle nut and disconnect the lower ball joint and separate from the spindle assembly. pull the outer cv joint out from the spindle and pull out the half shaft. you may have to remove the speedometer drive gear before removing the half shaft. installation in reverse order.

if this is a 4wd drive model , try having someone listen to front wheel hubs when you back up , id be conserned that the front wheel hubs seals have gone bad and there is now dirt inside bearings and has damaged them , also ive seen clicking caused by locking hubs not fully disengauged by dirt stuck inside

How to replace a transmission rear seal on a 1994 chevy K1500


This should be a fairly straight forward easy job. You will need to block the wheels, or jack up the truck and set securely on jack stands. Remove the drive shaft by removing the u-joint straps and prying u-joint away from pinion. Make sure you do not let the u-joint caps some off of the u-joint as they are filled with many needle bearings that you do not want to loose. when you get the u-joint free of the pinion it is a good idea to wrap a piece of tape around the u-joint to keep the caps in place. Then you simply have to pull the drive shaft back to slide the front out of the transmission. Then you can get a small chisel around the lip of the seal and the back of the transmission tail shaft and pop out the old seal and then install the new one. Put the drive shaft back in and you are done.

Did the mechanic remove the rear driveshaft to check for a binding U-joint or just check for loose u-joints without removing the shaft. You need to remove the shaft to do a good check of the joints

Replacing CV Joints


Yes you can remove the drive shaft by unbolting the bottom ball joint,then removing the nut that holds the shaft in the hub I would'nt recommend trying to replace just the CV joint as this can be a very complicated procedure involving specialized tools and more than just general mechanical skill,this isn't true of all,as some CV's come apart fairly easily.If the joint is bad you should probably just replace the axle.Remember to match mark any adjustable parts you may have to disassemble,and when you reassemble make sure to check the splines of the shaft and the drive hub,remove any foreign material and carefully file or sand any burs or scratches,any of these can cause the spline to bind on reassembly and possibly cause irreparable damage to one or both parts.Good luck hope this helps.

Removing the right intermediate axle shaft


i can only guess it is a 3.0l 4v well as far as the axle goes, the rh outer half shaft seperates at the splines on the intermediate shaft.
the intermediate shaft is the solid shaft from the trans to a bearing support bracket and ends after that. it is externally splined.
the rh axleshaft , inner cv joint, is internally splined.
to remove the rh axleshaft, remove the rh wheel and splash shield.
removed the lower balljoint pichbolt and seperate the lower balljoint front the steering knuckle. take the axle nut off and using a large brass drift or hardwood, drive the axle out of the bearing-hub assembly. DO NOT DAMAGE THE THREADS. also use some lubricant on the axle nut dissasembly. after the outer axle end is free, using the same brass drift or other, hit the inner cv joint and drive it off the intermediate shaft. inspect the splines closely because these fail and cause a no-drive condition.
then the mounint bolts for the support bearing and pull the intermedate shaft out, you will loose some fluid.
