My first suggestion is calling a qualified mechanic, as this is a delicate job, and any mistake can compromise the integrity of the engine.

To DIY, you have first to remove the flat cover on the passenger side of the engine. It goes around the crankshaft gear,water pump gear,exaust gear,intake gear.
If you have never done such a kind of job you risk to damage the engine in a bad way.

If you want to do it yourself buy the Haynes manual, and refer to it for pictures and procedure

SOURCE: fuel pressure regulator had no vacuum line connected

another engineers wet dream. think of it this way . what is normally in the intake when the engine is running.. answer vacume, hence the regulator gets its vacume without a hose connected to it as its already in a full time vacume chamber.no hose required . ps be carefull to seat the regulator and o rings securely into the housing befor you reattach the secureing metal clip.

It seems to me that you have a bad fuel pressure regulator, but before replacing the FPR locate the fuel filter disconnect the line that goes to the engine and not the one that goes into the fuel tank put a hose on the tip of fuel filter, place a container under to drop fuel now have someone turn the ignition key ON but engine off while you are going to observe for fuel, pressure needs to be strong if it looks to weak then it might be your fuel pump I also recommend to change the fuel filter sense you are there ,also check for power on the injectors connections with a test light, after doing this and everything seems fine then go head and replace the FPR fuel pressure regulator,WARNING working with fuel is highly dangerous make sure fuel doesn't touch any cables or look around for anything that can detonated fire, GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have a 1984 chevette diesel the relays will click twice on and off all glow plugs work just wont stay on long enouf to heat can plug it up starts easy please help im a mechanic


I would be inclined to replace the relays as it appears that there is a shorting fault in the relay coil that is not allowing the points to be held together for the correct time period.

Sometimes there is a plastic strainer in the gas tank and when they break down they will clog the fuel pick up. After the suction stops the pieces settle until the next time.

Ever replace the fuel filter or check for fuel getting through the filter?

Besides the inertia sensor which needs to be manually reset, some of these motors had an inline fuel pressure regulator. Another area can be a crankshaft sensor which adjusts fuel pressure to RPM.

Believe the inline pressure regulator works off vacuum so the "check engine light" would not diagnose. On the other hand, the crankshaft sensor should generate a trouble code. Curious as to what you find.

Acording with 1984 PONTIAC PARISIENNE 5.0L 4BL OHV 8CYL - REPAIR GUIDE, This system incorporates a bleed in the pressure regulator which automatically relieves pressure any time the engine is turned off, but a small amount of fuel may be released when the fuel line is disconnected.

To reduce the chance of personal injury, cover the fuel line with a shop cloth to collect the fuel, and then place the cloth in an approved container.

The Fuel Filter is located under hood, center, upper engine area, mounted in fuel inlet line connected to carburetor.

I have a 1984 crown vic and the TB loads up like a stuck float in a carb, How do I repair this?


Rebuild the tbi,it has a fuel pressure regulator in it,and it is not controlling the fuel flow.Most all the fuel is being dumped into the tbi.If this was helpful,please rate,and thank you.

Fuel pump push rod


I would use something like the fuel pump listed here, this is a good performance fuel pump that will be able to feed that 454 engine, it comes with a fuel pressure regulator and you can either use a fuel gauge to set the fuel pressure or install an in-line fuel gauge near the carburetor to easily check and monitor the fuel pressure, and set the fuel pressure regulator for 7psi of fuel pressure, and any more fuel pressure than that and the fuel could be pushed past the needle and seat inside the carburetor.

The fact that you ask the question indicates you do not have the expertise to do this. Severe damage can be done to the engine if this is done incorrectly. Find a good trustworthy mechanic and pay the expert to do this job.
