Question about Cars & Trucks
All gears work fine on my gmc jimmy except when parking it still rolls
You should apply the parking brake on all vehicles,
when you stop & before you let off the foot brake.
I suspect you have a broken parking pawl in the trans
Remove the trans pan & put in park, to check it out
Maybe some adjustment on linkage or worn out items
that can be resolved, but not likely able to buy parts any more,
have to find a fix & do yourself

Hi... to adjust rear brakes providing the shoes are good... just drive vehicle in reverse and pump brakes... rear shoes are self adjusting so they should "adjust" themselves... after doing this test by putting on park brake, put vehicle in drive and see if vehicle moves forward, repeat procedure if necessary. Hope this helps... please rate suggestion.... ty

The gear selector lock may be hanging up or an interment electrical problem. The gear selector lock is so you can't pull it out of park without the key in the run position and your foot on the brake acts as a safety device so you don't accidently pull shifter out of park or kids playing and pull it out of park and also helps for anti-theft device. The proper name for this is SHIFT INTERLOCK SYSTEM. There is no common problems with this system but I have replaced a couple solenoids but not all on GMC's the other item I would think would be more common is the brake switch for this system.
