Usually you bleed the slave cylinder, not the master.

i think youre doing the right thing. they are very stubborn to bleed because the hyd. line goes up high across back of engine before droppiing back down to slave cyl., trapping air. could try to gravity bleed by opening bleeder at slave, cap off of master cyl, full with fluid then it may start to come out after a bit. then try your process again. or can try to bleed at connections further up the line, working your way back to bleeder. hope this helps. be patient.

I am a hydraulic technician and I can tell you that air is a killer in the hydraulic system.

Start from the rear and work your way forward. I f you are using the two person method, make sure the second person keeps the master cylinder full. If the fluid level dropped anywhere in between pressing and releasing the brakes....you have a lot of air in the system.

Make sure you are tightening the bleed valve when the brake pedal is full pressed.

Remeber...start from the rear brakes first, then do the front.

2000 electraglide, trying to bleed brakes on the rear master cylinder. I take the cap off master cylinder put a hose on bleeder valve, pump up break and hold it down crack the valve and nothing comes out....


does the pedal have pressure then go down after valve is cracked? With a hose on the nipple to a bottle to catch the fluid, press rear brake pedal down. Don\'t pump the brakes. Crack the bleeder valve while continuing to press down on the pedal. Once the pedal reaches the limit of its travel close the valve. Once the valve is closed; and not before; release the pedal and let it return to its at rest position. Repeat this process until you have good pedal without the need to pump, good clean fluid is coming out the valve, and no air is in the fluid coming out the valve. Be sure not to let the fluid in reservoir get too low or you will suck in air and need to start over and don\'t press the pedal too quickly or you can shoot a stream of brake fluid out the reservoir.

In very extreme cases, if you have lost prime in the master cylinder, it may be necessary to bleed the master cylinder first. THIS IS A LAST RESORT. Remove the brake line from the master cylinder. Try to limit the loss of fluid from the brake line to bare minimum. Thread a nipple into the master cylinder. Run a hose from the nipple into the reservoir. Be sure the hose stays submerged in the fluid in the reservoir and pump the brake until no bubbles come out the hose. Remove the nipple and reinstall the brake line. Slowly press down the brake pedal while tightening the line to minimize the air bubble in the brake line. Again be sure not to release the pedal until the line is tight. Then proceed to bleed the brakes as you normally would. Do not pump the brakes up. Just press the pedal down, crack the valve, close the valve, release the pedal, repeat.

How do you bleed the brake system on 2003 suzki grand yitara 4x4 with abs brakes


The hydraulic brake system must be bled any time one of the brake lines is disconnected or air enters the system. There are two ways to bleed the system; pressure bleeding or manual bleeding. Both procedures will be given here, although pressure bleeding requires the use of some fairly expensive equipment (a pressure tank) and is seldom used. Both methods are equally effective.The correct bleeding sequence is: left front, right front, left rear, and right rear. On master cylinders equipped with a bleeder valve, bleed the master cylinder last.
PRESSURE BLEEDING
  1. Clean the top of the master cylinder, remove the cover, and attach the pressure bleeding adapter.
  2. The spring-loaded plunger on the front of the proportioning valve must be depressed while bleeding. Wire or tape can be wrapped around the valve to hold the plunger in.
  3. Check the pressure bleeder reservoir for correct pressure 20-29 psi (137-206 kPa) and fluid level, then open the release valve.
  4. Fasten a bleeder hose to the wheel cylinder or caliper bleeder nipple and submerge the free end of the hose in a transparent receptacle. The receptacle should contain enough brake fluid to cover the open end of the hose.
  5. Open the wheel cylinder or caliper bleeder nipple and allow the fluid to flow until all bubbles disappear and an uncontaminated flow exists.
  6. Close the nipple, remove the bleeder hose and repeat the procedure on the other wheel cylinders according to the sequence.


MANUAL BLEEDING(see Figures 1, 2 and 3)An alternative to the pressure method of bleeding requires two people to perform; one to depress the brake pedal and the other to open the bleeder nipples.
  1. Clean the top of the master cylinder, and then remove the cover and fill the reservoir with clean brake fluid.
  2. To prevent squirting fluid replace the cover.
  3. The spring-loaded plunger on the front of the proportioning valve must be depressed while bleeding. Wire or tape can be wrapped around the valve to hold the plunger in.
  4. Install a box end wrench on the left front bleeder screw.
  5. Attach a length of small diameter, clear vinyl tubing to the bleeder screw. Submerge the other end of the rubber tubing in a glass jar partially filled with clean brake fluid. Make sure the rubber tube fits on the bleeder screw snugly or you may be squirted with brake fluid when the bleeder screw is opened.
  6. Have your friend slowly depress the brake pedal. As this is done, open the bleeder screw half a turn and allow the fluid to run through the tube. Close the bleeder screw, then return the brake pedal to its fully released position.
  7. Repeat this procedure until no bubbles appear in the jar. Refill the master cylinder.
  8. Frequently check the master cylinder level during this procedure. If the reservoir runs dry, air will enter the system and the bleeding will have to be repeated.

Front and rear drum brakes, the pads are ok, but the brake pedal started going to the floor. When I tried to bleed them, the rear bleeder screws broke. So I replaced both wheel cylinders. The rubber...


OK........as you have stated that you have bled the brakes properly.....was there fluid coming out each bleed nipple as a flowing stream...????

And did you shut off the bleed nipple half way down stroke....?????

If this is all ok, then I would be looking at a failed master cylinder.......and what is occurring is the fluid is leaking from the primary to the secondary within the master cylinder !!!!!

Exact procedure for bleeding brakes on 1989 Toyota tacoma


Two people are best to do this job. Make sure the car is in gear or park with the wheels chocked and the handbrake down. You work from the wheel furthest from the master cylinder. If you lie under the car and look at the back of the wheel cylinder you will see a bleed nipple. You can probably do this job without removing the wheel. If you do need to make sure the car is jacked up properly and don't lie under it. The nipple is covered with a rubber dust protector. You need a length of plactic tubing that will fit tightly over the end of it, about 2 ft long. Then put the other end into a bottle with a little brake fluid in it making sure the end stays in the bottle. Open the filler cap on the master cylinder. Have somebody sit in the driver's seat. Tell them to push the brake pedal. As they do this loosen off the bleed nipple making sure the pipe does not come off. The pedal will fall to the floor and you will notice fluid coming into the pipe. Lock the nipple up again and tell them to lift the pedal. Do the same again and keep doing it until no more bubbles go into the bottle. After every few pushes of the pedal, check the master cylinder and top it up. You do not want any air to get in there. When there are no more bubbles, tighten the nipple, replace the dust cap and move on to the next wheel furthest from the master cylinder and then the next until the last one is closest. Make sure you use clean brake fluid and don't shake the bottle or air will become trapped in the fluid. Brake fluid will ruin paint so be careful not to spill it on the bodywork.

How do I properly bleed the clutch on a 2004 Chevy 2500HD Pickup?


You need 2 of you .
1 inside the truck working the pedal.
THE other one under the truck with the spanner and tube to fit on to the bleeding nipple,then get a small bottle and 1/2 fill with water put in the tube and other end on to the bleeding nipple'
Then get the inside person to pump 3 times fast and hold it down on the 3rd pump and you undo the bleeder
When the pedal is down on the floor YOU nip up the nipple only and the driver can let up the pedal again and top up the master cylinder
then do it all over again for another 2 times and on the 3rd time it should be 100% and that time tighten up the bleeder... but if it still isent 100% then either the master or the slave cylinder has to be removed and honed out and fitted with a new rubber repair kit, and bleed all over again .Let me know how you get on Ron

I need to know how to properly bleed the clutch master cylinder on my Acura Integra ?


Under the vehicle you will find a cylinder mounted on the bell housing. On that cylinder is a bleeder nipple. Make sure your clutch master is full. Then open the bleeder down under and let it drip. just barely open it so it does drip and not flow. Watching it you will see it passing air bubbles. Once drips come at a steady pace and no bubles interupt, Vlose the nipple and go try the clutch. Ck the master fluid level. Any problems, let me know. Good Luck, Ned

I cant bleed the clutch on my renault laguna 2 52 plate it has a plastic bleeding system I have tried everything but with no success Les


You need to connect the pressure bleeder to the brake master cylinder resrvoir,then bleed the clutch through from the nipple on the slave cylinder.If the nipple is not of the unscrewable type,you need to release the pipe from it's clip where the nipple is and then this will allow the air to escape and you end up with fluid with no air bubbles in it coming out of the nipple.If the nipple is of the more normal type,you need to follow the same procedure,you just undo the nipple half a turn and this will have the same effect.

It's best to connect a piece of small pipe with a container to collect the fluid in on to the nipple as you could contaminate the clutch plate with the waste fluid,and if your using a pressure bleeder it will save you getting squirted with brake fluid when you release the nipple!.

If you have someone else that can help you,don't use the pressure bleeder and just get the person to sit in the car and work the clutch pedal up and down whilst you open and close the bleed nipple.You follow the procedure,clutch pushed down,release nipple,close nipple,clutch pedal up,clutch pedal down,release nipple,close nipple,clutch pedal up and so on a so forth until no more air comes out and you have a steady stream of fluid.

How do I bleed the master clutch cylinder


Drain or bleed? The bleeder nipple is on the slave cylinder. Fill master cylinder,leave the cap loose, open the bleed nipple at the slave cylinder,and let gravity do the rest. whe vo more aie bibbles come out and it drips steady. Close the bleeder, top of the master cylinder and you are done.

Changed brake pads! Success.. Now I need to bleed the brakes.


To bleed you brake system, you will need brake fluid, a jar, and a couple feet of small hose that fits tightly on the bleeder screws. You should not need to remove the tires to access the bleeder screws, but you may need to raise the vehicle a bit to access them.

To bleed the system, start with the right rear wheel. Put a couple inches of brake fluid in the jar, attach the hose to the bleeder screw, put the hose in the jar of brake fluid, then open the bleeder screw. Once the bleeder screw is open, pump the brake several times. Next, close the bleeder screw. After you close the bleeder screw, remove the hose and jar, then fill the master cylinder with brake fluid.
Repeat the steps going to the left rear second, right front third, and left front last.

Once you have bled the system your brakes should be tight and working nice.
