L200 bubble, bubble, toil and trouble!

2001 TD Trojan with 130K Symptoms - bubbling in water header tank from pressure in radiator very hot cab heating but coolish radiator with no overheating/boiling no oil in coolant no coolant in oil thoughts and suggestions please before I call time

SOURCE: Mitsubishi L200 overheating

i have an l200 animal, i started getting the same symptoms, bubbling noises, over heating, water being discharged into the header tank, i had a good look around the engine,there was no oil in the water or water in the oil ( signs of head gasket failure) when the radiator cap was off and i revved hard nothing happened, no dip in water levels and no splashing out. i took the water pump off and the impellor had sheered off the shaft. fitted a new pump and its been fine, maybe all these cracked cylinder heads and warped heads are to do with the engine being run with the fault not being cured.

SOURCE: Drained radiator added prestone Radiator flush refilled and started overheating, drained radiator replaced thermostat and now I get no heat from heater,Radiator water is hot

disconnect the heat hoses going into fire wall , put hose into one with pressure and flush as it sounds like it could be bloked in the heater core,the other thing that could be the problem be the hot ,cold switch as it restricts the flow to makes the heater hoter or colder , it might need tlc or replacing as it is manaul not elec

SOURCE: overheating coolant boiling out into reserve tank

you have a blown head gasket.. doesn't have to have coolant in the oil for a blown head gasket... if hoses are rock hard when running then you have exhaust leaking into the coolant via a blown head gasket...

The engine is 4d33, now there is a heavy mixing of oil in the engine but no oil found in the radiator, when ur pouring water in the radiator it's not getting full whilst it is running


Blown Head Gasket Symptoms:
  • Coolant leaking externally from bellow the exhaust manifold.
  • White smoke from the exhaust pipe.
  • Overheating engine.
  • Bubbles in the radiator or coolant overflow tank.
  • White milky oil.
  • Significant loss of coolant with no visible leaks.

The header tank bubbles when I start my 1998 freelander 20T2n engine


check your radiator fluid to see if it has oil in it, and check your oil to see if it has radiator fluid in it that's a common problem with a head gasket leak, also if you notice a lot of steam coming out of your exhaust because it can get through to the piston and burn the antifreeze, but if it's bubbling in your overflow tank it might just be a bad radiator cap keep that in mind good luck

There are other things to test before we have the engine spread all over the yard. Cooling fan operation. Yes the thermostat hot air in heater just means hot water. start with a cold engine then start and run at a high idle if heats quickly upper radiator hose hot lower cold good but reverse no flow. remove and test thermostat (not replace) put on stove boil water and watch it open once center piece is moving check with thermometer it should agree with stamp number on thermostat. if good check for slipping fan belt. check for air restrictions on radiator and water flow.

2001 ford taurus that wont start. I am getting fuel pressure. I installed new plugs, wires, and coil pack. There is pressure in the radiator fill tank just from trying to start the car. Is that norma


Take off the radiator fill cap.
Top off the radiator.
Crank the engine.

Are there bubbles or is there water spouting out of the radiator fill hole?

Yes: likely cylinder head gasket failure or cracked header.

No: Pressure test cooling system after topping off with a pressure tester. Locate source of leak.

Assuming the water leak isn't anything to do with the non-starting situation, which it probably is though form the sound of it, also check the following:

1) Air filter
2) Fuel filter
3) Manifold Air Pressure sensor.
4) Mass Air Flow sensor.

Water stays cool in resorvoir bottle while hoses get hot


check your radiator cap whether is the correct in pressure and also if the hose connecting the radiator with the expansion tank is not blogged.

2001 Ford Escape. Coolant leaking from somewhere. Went through bottle of coolant in 2 days.


If there is no sign of a leak you need to test for cylinder head leaks.
Warm up the engine and remove the radiator cap. Top up the water to the neck of the filler. Squeeze the top hose a couple of times to shift any air in the top tank of the radiator. Run the engine on idle and check for bubbles it the radiator, keep it topped up to the neck. Bubbles showing means you have a head gasket problem.

the clue is in the heater not performing correctly,YOU HAVE AN AIRLOCK,.....undo the topmost hot hose clip to vent any air making sure the expansion bottle is full.....use only antifreeze to keep up the right mix.

hi from uk the problem your symptoms describe esecially the bubbles that are appearing in the coolant header tank would suggest that the poor heat in car is due to air locking in the heater and this is most probaby the air bubbles you see in head tank are also finding their way into heater matrix via heater hoses may i suggest that asap you visit garage for a cooling system pressure test because theseair bubbles should not be appearing and is a sgn that you may have a cylinder head gasket in early stage of failure and what these bubbles are is compression in cylinder/s is leaking via gasket into the coolant system and emmiting in the head tank however i do say early sign so a compression test on cooling system will confirm whether or not ? considering cars age? it is not uncommon especially if high milage or any history in past of overheating ? hope this helps
