The first thing to check would be the transmission fluid level. Typically checked with engine warm, idling, and in PARK. If the fluid level is OK, and the fluid is a pinkish red in color, you may need a computer update. I believe there were some recall 'flash' updates for this problem. If the fluid is brown or smells burnt, you should have the tranny fluid changed. Make sure you use the correct fluid type if you add or change fluid!! Also check on the mazda6club.com forum for similar issues. The tranny and computer should be covered for at least 60K on the warranty coverage.

I have a 04 NPR 300 5speed and I was wondering if I could put a 6speed gearbox out of a 2010 NPR 300 in my truck

probably not without some difficulty as the main body of the box will be different
that will require you to check the bell housing bolt pattern, the gear selection position and the tail shaft will have to be shortened in the front section as the length of the box is expected to be longer
find a transmission shop that does repairs and see if you can get both boxes side by side to compare or ask around wreckers to see if you can get to compare boxes
generally it is far easier to change both the engine / transmission as an assembly and the 2010 engine will be more efficient with more torque that the 2004 engine

There should be 2 plugs in the trans - one for drain and one to fill. Just make sure you use the correct fluid - chack with your dealer.

Manual transmission takes effort to put in gear.

Have the clutch looked at. If the clutch is not releasing fully it makes shifting difficult. Have the trans fluid changed too, it isn't expensive and probably is listed under your maintanance in the owners manual

My 2006 mazda 6s has a 6speed automatic transmission. But whenever I brake and the transmission shifts back, it gives a big "bang" when it downshifts at the fourth gear. What might be wrong?
